The remains of the vehicle I purchased from Skyline Motors was in an accident that left it totalled. That would be bad enough; however it is currently in a police hold because the car is reported actively stolen. Skyline Motors might have sold me a vehicle that never was legally allowed to be sold. It is now part of a multi-state police investigation.

From day three of my buying experience with the family-run team at Skyline, things went very badly. Prior to buying the vehicle, I asked what type of vehicle inspection was done. I was told the vehicle was inspected by their expert mechanics and the brakes were completely checked. 

On day 3, I was driving my girlfriend's 5 year old son to school when I applied the brakes and nothing happened. I slid into oncoming traffic and narrely avoided a head-on collision. I was able to get to a nearby repair shop where I was informed that there were no brake pads on the front tires! How could this car be sold to me without brake pads and how could the sales team lie to me about the vehicle evaluation?

I contacted Skyline and informed them about the brakes and the close call accident involving a child and was informed that "all sales were final" and "it was my problem to fix." 

Later, I came to discover that Skyline Motors also had me pay the previous year of registration fees prior to ever owning the vehicle. One illegal action after the next. This is a company that people should stear clear of! I hope others who have had similar experiences with Skyline Motors will share their stories on the above website. The vehicle I purchased should never have been sold to me and there could be many other similar vehicles on their lot. BE WARNED! I also am unable to collect on insurance money owed to me bacause the vehicle is considered stolen. How can this even be allowed?

Follow-up to Skyline Motors

It is now "my word against the dealership" time. Based on the response of Skyline Motors, I ask for them to share the inspection report of the brake pads of the "CALIFORNIA BRAKE and LIGHT" center they claim to have. This was not provided to me upon my request on the phone with one of the dealership brothers. I did not expect the brake pads to be new-however I certainly never expected them to be barely there. The auto repair place that I took the car to after almost having a head-on-collision, Todd and Sons, called me while the vehicle was up on the lift to show me the brake pads. I have alerted them to Skyline Motor's response claiming that they cheated me. I can tell you that Todd and Sons claim never to have witnessed such poor quality of brake pad condition. I have photos of the pads for anyone who cares to see or questions the danger of purchasing from Skyline Motors.

I would also like to address a few other non truths in Skyline Motor' response to my initial report:

1. I never received the report of the initial brake report that Skyline Motors claimed they forwarded to me. I would love for them to provide it now.

2. The claim that Skyline Motors was willing to pay for the brake work is only partially true. Once I discovered the car was unsafe to drive, I requested the brake work and spark plugs, which needed desperately be replaced be covered by Skyline Motors be done. Nothing more.... I did not ask for "monetary compensation exceeding, by a large margin the actual cost of the repairs." This is rather the dealership trying to cover their own sneaky and less then ethical method of covering their own actions. They denied me compensation and I was unable to afford an attorney to challenge them at the time.

3. I never agreed to bring my vehicle back to their dealership. Once I realized they sold a vehicle with brake pads that were unsafe, I had no faith in their integrity, so I asked they cover the cost of the repairs from Todd and Sons located in El Cajon. On the phone I was told by one of the brothers who would not share his name, that they "would not cover the repair costs, and there was no accident, that the kid was fine, not hurt so it was no big deal." I did think the vehicle code was correct I listed and I had an attorney read the letter sent. This might not have been correct [so Skyline Motors might have a point there; however I did not "nervously end the phone call." as written. I was so angry that they responded in such a uncaring manor after hearing a 5 year old child was in a potential fatal head on accident. I choose to end the call before I said something in unprofessional response to such a callous response. The individual I spoke with claimed to be an attorney; however would not share his name. I found this strange and even in email when I requested the name of the individual who claimed to be an attorney, I was denied this information. I actually felt a little threatened by the individual on the phone.

4. I would like to address the photo on the website. It is shared because once you purchase a vehicle like I did from Skyline Motors, you might discover the following challenges whether you try to register it in another state, try to sell it or have to work with an insurance company after it is totaled:

   a. If you are thinking about buying a vehicle from Skyline Motors, have it inspected by your own mechanic (I should have-and never would have purchased this dangerous vehicle)

  b. Check to make sure the vehicle is still not in the DMV system as stolen (The Dodge Durango I purchased is still listed as stolen and the title provided with the DMV registration is listed as “not valid” not could the vehicle be registered in another state.)

c. Might want to wait to purchase the vehicle to confirm it is valid-there is a lot of deception with this dealership and could have been discovered after it made it through the DMV system. If the vehicle can be sold after theft recovery in an auction it can still miss the DMV stolen issue. This is still under review with this vehicle.

d. The vehicle was in an accident unrelated to the brakes I had fixed. The only point is to show that if I tried to sell the vehicle -I would have had tremendous trouble. -and would not have been legal on the road. I was unable to register it in another state due to it being listed as stolen and the total loss proved the insurance company could not settle it. 

And finally I have not "placed any burden" on Skyline Motors. Have I asked Skyline Motors to pay for the cost of the vehicle since the insurance company is unable to due the "stolen factor"? Not yet at least-I am still trying to unravel the mystery of what happened years ago. This rip-off report is to alert unsuspecting individuals the potential dangers of purchasing from Skyline Motors. Read some of the Yelp review posted about them (read the filtered report). I also hope Todd and Sons might add their own response regarding their service being called out and the inaccuracy of how the work was done.

Too often dealerships like Skyline Motors provide inaccurate descriptions of how transactions transpire. This is to help individuals make a better purchase decision then I did. A vehicle purchase is often a nerve-wracking experience. It should not be one that effects your financial well being or causes you danger when you drive it off the lot. For me, Skyline Motors resulted in both situations.

This customer tried to extort the dealership with fabricated state codes

I have detailed notes from this vehicle transaction which was completed by the gentlemen who is clearly writing the complaint. He purchased this vehicle from us, which was saftey inspected by a certified CALIFORNIA BRAKE AND LIGHT center. We have the documentation from the station that completed the inspection and submit those to the DMV inorder to complete registration. At that time the brakes were shown and documented to be in proper working condition, this does not mean the brakes are new but just states that they are in satisfactory condition which would make sense considering the nature of a USED vehicle. This station is inspected and operated under California jurisdiction.

We do not own this station nor do we have any control over their inspections. This information was forwarded to the customer once the initial complaint was received however he was uncooperative and began making demands for large sums of monetary compensation and trying to extort the dealership with illigal state codes that he fabricated. Prior to submitting fabricated state codes demanding monetary compensation we offered to have his brakes checked out and replaced at our cost and relook over the entire vehicle to correct any other issues that may have been overlooked by the saftey inspection, which was not completed by our own dealership rather a third party state inforced entity.

He was asked about the fabricated state violation codes he submitted to us in writing with the monetary demand letter and was reluctant to provide any further information. We still have all the notes and the demand letter he submitted with fabricated state laws. The mechanic shop he took the vehicle too was also contacted and the gentlement that oversold him on the brake pads also denied ever telling the customer that the brakes were missing, inactive, or faulty. He stated for the record that the pads were reccomended to be replaced on the front axles. Many auto mechanics will make a simple reccomendation seem like life or death just to make a few extra bucks. Take a look at the many news investigations corresponsing to mechanics and their effective ways at decieving customers into paying for unecceesary repairs.

After having our litigation department contact the customer and question his demand letter for monetary compensation exceeding, by a large margin the actual cost of the repairs, he nervously ended the phone call. We never heard from him again even though we were willing to compensate him based on the repairs he mentioned in his initial claim. We tried to correct the issue and gave him an oppurotunity to bring the vehicle in, he initially agreed but later figured out that he might be able to extort 10 times the cost by threatening us with fabricated state laws.

Regarding his second claim that the vehicle was sold illigally by our dealership: The vehicle was sold legally and the DMV actually processed all of the paperwork and registered the vehicle in his name and under his sole ownership. They would not do this if their were any issues on our part. If there are any issues we are still more than happy to provide answers or paperwork documenting the transaction and we are willing to fully cooperated with the State Department of Motor Vehicles or any ongoing investigations like the customer mentioned. There may have been issues that arose during his ownership. I am suprised that we have not yet been called or notified by anyone handling this case investigation. I am not sure what the picture of the totaled vehicle is suppose to represent in the url. I am sure that has nothing to do with our dealership, yet was obviously placed to instill emotional appeal. The vehicle was purchased over 2 years ago and just happend to get totaled and the burden is being placed on the dealership becuase your insurance will not pay you out?
