I was so excited to be able to drive again when I had my Smart Start Interlock device installed in Dec.2010. Finally after a year of a revoked license, time in jail, thousands in fines and fees, AA classes, 80 something hours of "counseling" I chose Smart Start because I could have installed in Az but have serviced in Ca if I were there. I left for Ca 2 days after installation of device and received my 1st "miss". The device had alerted me to blow which i did, problem was it wasn't functioning properly, when I would start the humming process it would "abort" right away. I convinced myself it was operator error because it did eventually work after it had already counted down. That should have been an indicator, I am now on my 3rd device and currently 3 days without a vehicle! My experience with this device and this company can only be described as a nightmare! I have not been able to start my vehicle now for 3 days because my Smart Start device is malfunctioning.

When you call to find out what your supposed to do in situation where the device has stranded you and you are told to bang your device on the something hard and if that doesn't work then your out of luck! I was told to find a ride over an hour drive away to have head of device swapped and that may not even fix problem! Like I said this is 3rd "head" of device I have had changed, the last one gave me 4 violations!!!! When I called to get that figured out I was spoken to like a criminal or like I did something wrong. Come to find  the BAC of those "violations" where .000(no alcohol) so they did credit my account for the "lockout" but I still recieved a letter from AZ MVD saying I am starting year over.

Call Smart Start they say to schedule a hearing withMVD!! ME??? I should schedule a hearing?? wow after all this extra time a money this device has cost me, not to mention the anxiety and stress caused by these rude employees on the phone, I just can't believe what I have been through. Its crazy. I want my money back and a different device in my vehicle. And yes Im following all there advice on care for device...Its not the operator people its the device! Bad devices do exist!!! These things are far from perfect in fact they are very sensitive especially if the past few owners banged it on its side like suggested every time they call.
