Spirit Airlines is considered the laughing stock of the airlines industry and heres another perfect example why:
Spirit Air does a bait and switch technique when it comes to booking airfare. This company regularly has advertisements for either $24 off a round trip ticket or $35 off a round trip ticket with the coupon code 24OFF and 35OFF, respectively. When booking a flight without a coupon code, you were easily able to book a round trip flight at full cost. When entering a coupon code into the box, and then trying to book a flight, you are given an error saying that there are no available flights because they are all booked. This absolute BS, because when you delete your Internet history and rebook the flight without the 35OFF coupon code, it will let you. When booking a regular flight, lets say from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale, a round trip ticket with taxes and fees comes out to $ 25 each way for the standard fare if you are not a $9 fare club member. When you try to book the same exact flight with the 24OFF coupon, they will now magically not have any $25 fares, but those same fares are now $37! Then at the checkout they take the discount of $12 each way AND NOW YOUR BACK TO THE SAME PRICE. What a bunch of scammers! Sometimes you will find a returning flight that is $15 but for some unknown reason, spirit will not apply the $12 off that flight. Nobody could give me a reason by it is not eligible. Sometimes it is cheaper to book a flight without the coupons because of this technique they use to raise the price of the fare because discounts. Whats even more ridiculous is that at the stroke of midnight all of their fares changed. I was about to book a round trip ticket from Orlando to Ft. Lauderdale for $1 each way, plus taxes and fees, which came out to $40 out the door, and then I got an error at checkout. When I went back to the website, all the $1 fares turned into $69 fares with no $9 fare club flights. I couldnt believe my eyes. I cleared my Internet history and even tried on my phone with a different IP address, and all the fares went up $68 in price as soon as midnight hit! What a joke! Because if the dishonesty of a company, the horrible reputation they have in the industry, and their customer service call center run by Haitians, I will NOT do business with them. I just booked a ticket with Southwest, which cost a little more than double the price. But it was worth it: knowing you will receive service from a company with competent employees and ETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES.
