State Farm has been anything but a "good neighbor" to me. I've had a few issues with them, and I am still waiting for all of them to be resolved. The first incident is when a drunk driver totaled my car last April 2012. State Farm had told me that I would not be getting any money back for my 2009 corolla, which was in good condition. I fought with them for a bit and finally got some money back, not what my car was worth, but I did get some money back. While I was shopping for a new car, I rented a car which State Farm told me they would pay for, as long as I did not exceed a certain limit. I made absolute sure to not exceed those limits, and I did not. But for some reason, I got charged $250 out of my own pocket for the rental car. State Farm claims they called me and told me that I would have to pay. That phone call never happened. Since my agent, Debra Miller, was not helping me whatsoever, I made several calls myself to the claims department to retrieve that supposed "recorded phone call" they had of them telling me that I would have to pay for my own car rental. They somehow could not find the recorded phone call, and one day I had called again, and the person helping me on the phone couldn't even find that record of that accident in the system at all. It was magically deleted out of the system. I'm still trying to fight this issue.
Another big problem I am having with State Farm is another accident that happened last August 2012. A motorcycle struck me on the freeway and banged up my 4 month old car pretty good. He admitted to it at the scene because it was absolutely his fault, but then he went to his insurance and Of course, says I am at fault. With this, State Farm took the same stance and put me at fault, without even telling me. State Farm quickly paid for the motorcyclists damages. I wrote a long letter to State Farm, explaining my innocence of the matter and explaining simple physics to them. If I had struck the motorcycle, he would have been knocked over. So State Farm changed their mind on the matter and put the motorcyclist at fault. I then went back to State Farm and asked what the next step was on fixing my car. They simply said there is nothing they can do. Even though the accident is NOT my fault. State farm told me to go to the other insurance company MYSELF to fight the issue. I shouldn't have to fight my own battles with a "good neighbor" company. With that, i wrote the same letter and passed it along to the motorcyclists insurance, but they are sticking with their decision that I am at fault. State farm also explained to me that they will go after the other insurance company for THEIR money back that they paid for the motorcycle damages, but will not help me in fighting for ME, their loyal customer who is not at fault.
The other day, someone new to the State Farm business, Danielle Harmon, contacted me and asked for all of my information on my policy, and that she wants to help me. If she indeed works for the company, shouldn't my information be easily accessible to her?
It was very unprofessional. She finally called me again and she was clueless about the motorcycle accident. I ran through the details of the accident with her and explained that I need state farms help getting my car fixed. She replied with, "oh! Just take it to our auto body shop and they will take care of it. You don't need to give them a credit card or anything. We will take care of it. We can also send a tow truck to your house to pick up your car" I thought, "great!! Finally someone is helping me!" So I asked about a rental car, and she said she would check and call me back. So she called me back shortly and said "yeah... We can't help you fix your car. You need to pay for your own damages. Sorry." Very frustrating and she obviously has no clue what she is talking about. She never gave me a good answer as to why State Farm would not be helping me out with this issue. I emailed her this morning and asked if there were any news on the issue, and that id like to talk to her supervisor, or someone higher up that can help me. She replied with a short "there's nothing that can be done. Sorry. " and that was it. I wrote back and told her I still want to talk to someone else because I want to keep fighting this. It's not fair nor right! I pay them a lot of money every month and when someone hits me, I'm stuck with my own damages? ($900!) it's ridiculous.
Also, last year I noticed that State Farm was charging me different amounts each month. One month I would get charged $169 and the next month I would be charged $200. I brought it to their attention and they had no clue why this happened, and they assured me I would get a credit in my account LAST AUGUST. I've never seen a credit in my account. I'm still fighting this issue as well.
I could go on and on about my experiences with State Farm. Bottom line is, they are extremely unhelpful, unreliable, and not fair. With an insurance company, I expect them to help me in all circumstances, especially if I am not at fault. It's extremely frustrating. I have all emails to and from my agent and her assistant to show you, and all of my bank records as well. Please get this story out to the public. I don't want anyone else to go through what I am going through. Thank you.
