STORAGE USA Complete lack of due dilligence to provide advertised safety and security ripoff Henderson Nevada

On January 07, 2006, I rented outdoor storage space to park my enclosed motorcycle trailer. This trailer has absolutely no indicators as to what would be stored inside. It is stored in Nevada every winter to facilitate our riding holidays during our winter months in Canada.

Storage USA was not my first choice but our usual storage facility was full. Storage USA assured me that their facility was secure and that daily patrols were made to check that locks were secure and that nothing is out of the ordinary.

On January 26th 2006, I received a call from the district manager of Storage USA to telephone the Storage USA site where my trailer was stored. I called immediately and was informed that the locks on my trailer had been cut and they wanted to know what I had in the trailer so they could determine what, if anything was stolen. I was also informed that 4 other trailers had been broken into.

Being a Law Enforcement officer, I asked them to tell me what was in the trailer and I would let them know what, if anything was taken. It was reveiled that one of our motorcycles was missing.

The Storage USA manager told me that they were currently reviewing the security tapes to see if there was anything to reveal who did the theft. I asked when the theft would have occured. The manager told me that it would have been within the last 48 hours. She also said that all the tapes would be reviewed for that time period. She also told me that regular patrols had been made in the past and no indications of a break in was evident. They did install new locks on my trailer free of charge as they felt bad for my loss.

After speaking with the investigator from Henderson Police, he informed me that a staff member from Storage USA told him that the management from Storage USA have no idea when my trailer was broken into. It could be any time between January 07 and January 26, 2006. He also stated that the rear gate lock had been cut, perhaps to facilitate the removal of the bike with out detection.

What happened to the safety and security that Storage USA promises. They cant even go tour their own facility in their covered golfcart and check for broken locks or signs of a break-in. Reviewing tapes for the past 20+ days isnt going to be much help as the thief could be anywhere by now and the motorcycle could be in a thousand pieces.

Cold trails are hard to track. At least if there was a specific narrow time frame on which to concentrate, the investigation would have a much better chance of being sucsessful. It may not recover the bike but the bad guy may be caught or vise versa. Perhaps all this lack of due diligence on managements part to make proper patrols and live up to their safety an security promise, could be interpreted as being an inside job.

The trailer was imediately moved to another storage facility since there is a bad guy or guys out ther that know where there are two more motorcycles that would appear to be easy pickings.
