Got a call today from Sunset Escapes company saying I have on their books a $598 credit & "did you place $598 down on a vacation package?" When I informed them I had not. They proceeded to tell me that they "inherited" a lot of old accounts from a company they purchased and wanted to "clear them up"

The guy proceeded to tell me that I was half-in on a $1,298 package (math not correct) consisting of 3 night hotel stay, 7 night condo stay & a cruise. When I told him we were not interested in cruises. He asked me to hold while he saw if he could update my package & exchange the cruise.

I was transferred to a female who told me I had been updated by replacing the cruise with another condo stay. Great! She asked if I was interested. I said, Yes, but I'm waiting to hear what I have to pay. She proceeded again with the sales pitch, telling me I did not have to pay more than "$598" I said, "Great! So I don't have to pay anything?" "No", she said, " you have to pay the other "half" - $598.

She proceeded to offer me a discounted "friends & family" price of an additional $298 or threatened to "close ...[my] account". I told her to take out all vacation offers in surplus of my $598 credit. She said they didn't work like that.  I told her I didn't want it closed & could she mail me my infor re: my $598 credit. She said, Yes - after you purchase it.

I told her I needed to discuss it first with my wife. She wasn't moved. I asked her if I could, then, have my $598 credit mailed to me (since she was continuing to threaten to close my "account").

She said, "Okay, I'll just go ahead and close the account. You know how you're acting right now!"

Then the phone went dead!

I want my $598 or an equivalent vacation package.

Conflicting Information

AUTHOR: JTS - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, August 03, 2017

William (above) says his company presents the $596 credit as a promotion, however, the cold callers tell a differnt story.  Here is my experience...

This place is a complete scam. I had a man call and tell me "in January 2015 you made a purchase with your credit card for $598 for a vacation package". Not recalling this, I asked if I could put him on hold. I then reviewed my credit card statement (only credit card I have) and surprise, surprise, no charge for that amount. I got back on the phone to share this information with the person who called me and he got very aggressive. At first he claimed that he didn't say I used my credit card and it was just a "credit in his system" and that is all he could access. He stated that they have 27+ plus affiliates and he doesn't know exactly where it came from. He then started yelling and telling me to just hang up. After I let him yell and redo his selling scheme he then said "my manager just heard me getting upset and he is better at this so let me let you talk to him" to which I agreed. Another man came on the phone and immediately started trying to sell me a vacation package.

I politely said that my initial question was not answered. He then proceeded to inform me that he actually didn't know the exact date (shocker) nor the exact price I paid for this $598 credit (shocker) but that sometime around January 2015 I made a purchase with Ramada (which I confirmed was "the" Ramada hotel chain). So I asked if I call Ramada, they will confirm that sometime in late 2014 / early 2015 I made some kind of vacation package purchase? He said yes. Will be interesting to see what Ramada has to say.... I actually do feel bad for the first guy because I could tell through his tone and words that he hates making these cold calls and trying to scam people but he is not allowed to hang up (thus his telling me to hang up) Shocking update!!! Ramada nor Wyndam Resorts have any record of me purchasing ANYTHING from them related to ANY vacation purchase.

I really have no idea how this is allowed in our country....

Good thing you didn't do it!

We actually went thru with it and it's a Scam! We have been hung up on and not received any certificates as promised. Put on hold for over 30 minutes then hung up on. Asked for a refund several times and nothing back. Asked to talk to supervisor or manager and then put on hold and then hung up on. Sent numerous emails and left messages and nothing. At this point we are going to file with our credit card for fraud if we don't hear anything back by Friday. You definitely saved yourself on this one! We however were not so lucky! I have also written a report to warn people about this "company"!

We apologize for the inconvienience

AUTHOR: Sunset Escapes - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, April 14, 2017

Good Morning; To whom it may concern,

My name is William Sams and i am the Administrative Manager with Sunset Escapes. We do apologize for any inconvienience you have encountered on your phone call with one of our represenatives. Unfortunatlety due to the promotion that we run we are unable to offer your "$598" in the form of a voucher or credit. The $598 credit we have in our system is for a one phone call per household promotion we run in order to discount your brand new vacation package. It has no cash value and is in other words a coupon based on past travel purchases that we have analyzed and accumulated. As mentioned the promotion is a one call per house-hold promotion meaning the credit is only valid for the single phone call. If you were to call back in after as you said "You spoke to your wife" The credit would no longer be valid and the same package would cost $1996. We apologize, as we know your time is valuable. If you would like to speak with me and find a better way to resolve this issue you can contact me at (954) 715-7474. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Sincerly,

William Sams

Administrative Manager for Sunset Escapes
