I worked for Swift Transportation for nine months when I injured my back. They sent me to their doctors who suggested that I not drive OTR anymore and that I could drive local routes as long as I could get out of the truck often. When I approached Swift about this they told me that They could not and would not work with me. I was then fired for having an injured back. Whatever you do, if you work for Swift Transportation, DO NOT GET HURT, they will throw you out to the wolves.

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

to work and get fired

AUTHOR: gilbert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 09, 2003

I had worked for swift for about six mos. About the first two weeks of work I was a driver trainer which was cool, but the students I had were so bad i wouldn't even like to be in a four-wheeler with them. (I had driven for about ten years:]) Well, after awhile I drove by myself for a while and I got hurt on the job so I was off work for about 2-3 mos. and they send me a letter that I was laid off. So if you are planning to work with swift good-luck!!!!!!!!!!!!

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

"KISS-a*s"

AUTHOR: Kent - ()

POSTED: Saturday, August 24, 2002

I think I have read every article there is to read on SWIFT, and other so-called "driver-friendly: companies. I have come to the conclusion that there are three different kinds of drivers: Those that want to do things LEGALLY, those that don't give a d**n (all they want is a paycheck), and those that think "The Boss is always right, regardless".

When I have a problem and I notify my DM, and he tells me he can't help me, it's time for that DM to find a different occupation!!

When I ask my DM to let me drive 23 miles to get out of my truck, instead of sitting in 103 degree weather, aND HE TELLS ME IT IS TOO FAR, It is time for that DM to find another occupation.

And, yes I HAVE FOUND ANOTHER OCCUPATION. I work for a company that appreciates ALL ITS DRIVERS, not just those that KISS-a*s!!!

#1 UPDATE Employee

Get it correct

Not sure what this drivers true problem is but it is not Swift. I too was a driver with Swift that suffered a back injury and at my doctor's suggestion gave up OTR.

I approached my Terminal manager and advised him of my medical problems and guess what? A position was created for me to fulfill based upon my background and training.

Swift is a company that cares very much about thier drivers an does not throw them to the wolves or put them out to pasture. Each terminal has a workmans compensation coordinator that works with the driver, the drivers doctor and corporate to ensure that the driver is given every oppertunity to return to work hopefully with Swift.

I have never heard of Swift terminateing a employee for having a work related injury, in fact this sort of activity is illegal in most states and not in the best interest to the employee of the company.

This driver sounds like quite a few drivers I talk to every day, they want the pay but not willing to do the required work. 99% of our drivers are dam good employees that are willing to do what ever is required and we have the 1% that cry about everything.

I would suggest that these people grow up, Jerry is not your daddy, take care of yourself. Support the company and they will support you.
