My name is Stacey and I used to work for Target in Overland Park, KS from 1999 to April or May of 2000. During the course of my employment with Target Stores I was hired as a cashier. My bosses in charge of my former female boss Becky made her fire me because of several reasons. First I complained to her about being put in carts a lot and my main job was cashier and not a cart attendant. I also complained of other labor/employment issues on the job and I believe that I was fired because I opposed several violations in the workplace. She had to be getting her orders from the higher ups so the fault was in her bosses and not her. When I was sexually harassed by two females at work they tried to turn the situation around and say that I wanted to have an affair with Becky. I do not remember their names since I never reported the harassment to my boss. Becky is a very attractive lady but I would not risk my job to have an affair with a married lady who was my boss. Even though we didn't get along together on the job she would always have some joke to say or something nice to say to me. I think she was mean because she was in situation to where she had to be mean because of pressure from her higher ups in charge of her. I wrote Becky some letters about my situation at Target thinking that she would understand why I really left or was forced out at Target. I never heard back from her and I hear from Target's attorney that I am not to contact her or any Target employee or enter any Target Store at all.

Target's attorney threatened me saying that if I did ever contact any Target employee or go into any Target Store then the law enforcement authorities would be called on me. My complaint is that I cannot even go into any Target Store and just simply shop? I don't care about seeking remmployment there since I now have a job. I also complained in 2002 that I was not rehired by Target for other positions besides cashier as I had plenty of experience to be hired in other position that I was qualified for. I have even owned my own business before and I know some foreign languages as well. Do any of the other Target employees have those qualifications? Was I overqualified? I complained to Mary the clerk and called her in 2002 at 1-913-327-7770 at the Target Store I used to work for. She was being rude to me and explained to me that I was not to address my concerns to her. I remember one event to where the Overland Park Police officers tried to arrest me twice and I asked them where are their legal documents from Target's attorney that I am not supposed to enter any Target store. they couldn't show me nothing so I walked away and didn't come back into that store in Overland Park, KS since 2002. My complaint against the police is that they had no reason to try to detain me unless I was on the store property committing some crime. I do not recall ever committing a crime. Since I used to work there I would not do anything rash like get myself arrested or etc. I think that Target barred me from their stores because I opposed, challenged their hiring or rehiring practices with black males in certain job positions, or that they thought I was a threat because I am a black male who 6'4,280lbs, mostly all muscle with little body fat except on the waist and stomach. I think my race was perceived by Target's attorney as a threat so I think race played an issue here even if he doesn't admit it. Target will give me a bad or negative reference to other employers in saying that I am not a good candidate for rehire but I received a raise there so that eliminated my work record at Target as being bad. There is more information to this but I am looking for an attorney who handles class-actions against employers like Target because at the time I complained there are probably many complaints like mine against Target Corporation. Please help me because my name and good reputation are being abused by Target. I am reporting the law office in Kansas City, mo because Target's attorney Mr. Blumenthal represents Target Corporation.

Firing for illegal reasons or opposing is called retaliation

AUTHOR: Stacey - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 05, 2006

I can understand the team leader Becky or other CTLS putting me on carts if they where not enough cart attendants but I remember that several times there where plenty of cart attendants out there. One week I was on carts for a week because of Becky's bosses hearing that I complained of other issues in the workplace.

Firing a employee because they opposed some unlawful practice or barring them is basically called a form of retaliation. I preformed additional duties because I was forced too or otherwise they where going to fire me anyway. As far as the barring goes I think it was due to my race, size, and appearance. It seems like they think that any black male who comes in that Target Store and shows ample proof with their resume and references that argues with them in an intelligent manner in a non-threatening is still labeled as a threat to them even if he is isn't doing anything wrong. That is one thing I have never seen is that there are not any black males in the Target Stores in Overland Park, KS or Olathe, KS working in the higher leadership positions.

I would have gladly took any job that Target offered me that I was qualified for so according to Target, Target said I quit the job so according them I was never fired from Target. Has Target rehired anyone who has been fired from there before? Yes, many times. The trepassing law is just a nice way of saying that you have no legal rights at all or their legal loophole they use to get you off their property. I had witnesses there who where also my friends and they didn't deem me as intimidating enough to be barred from a Target Store and even there own employees where there as witnesses. When I asked Target's attorney what witnesses or anyone that he had who could testify against me, he could not give me an answer at all.

So I guess since he could not verify it with any witnesses or a legal document or police report with some criminal conviction or a violation of Target Store security policies then I guess I was right. I am glad that I am not working there anymore there are other jobs or companies to work for, sometimes I think about and I think that things happen for a good reason. However I received a raise there on my last day of work so other companies or jobs cannot tell Target that they can't hire me for a job because Target is reporitn some illegal or bad reference. If I did the same thing to them I would be fired from my job in second there, of course if I did that then I am no better than them.

Enough reason to fire you

Stacey, you stated " First I complained to her about being put in carts a lot and my main job was cashier and not a cart attendant."

This alone is reason to terminate you. No matter what retailer you work for, or what position they hire you for, you will be expected to perform additional duties as required. For example, the manager is not hired as a cashier - if NO cashiers show for work on one day who do you believe will most likely be ringing customers up - the manager.

As for being "barred" from all Target stores - it is private property - every city has a trespassing ordinance - if the party in control of the property deems you are undesireable and you enter the premisses you are trespassing.

I worked for Target for 6 years. I left there earlier this year and found a much better job with a different retailer. I was involved with the AP department.

I can tell you from experience that Target will claim they are "protecting" team members and guests. They do this by trespassing everyone that they want to by labeling them as a "threat." Usually these people are not threats but they feel that it is easier to just ban them from the store than deal with it.

Also, you would be surprised what is said in their executive team lead meetings. Team members are talked about and usually profiled as being "worthless" or "we need to start the process" on them. Usually all it takes is one instance of an ETL to not like you and then they speak about you in a meeting. Next thing you know you are labeled as a trouble team member.

I've seen it over and over, they will come up with a plan to make you quit or write you up on something. Being in AP, I've even been asked by the store team leader to find something on team members so they could terminate them.

Target has a lot of unfair and unethical practices, too many for me to list. I would not recommend anyone work for them. It caused me a lot of stress and even health issues. You will have NO job security with that company.

As for your problem in KC, I am familiar with that market and I can tell you that they have had lawsuits in the past for discrimination.
