In Februay 2008 we purchased a Toshiba Regza 47HL167 HD LCD tv..beautiful picture and sound and had special coating so no reflection from lights, windows, etc. In November 2008 it had a black line from top to bottom on right side. Since it was still under warranty we called Toshiba where the automated info referred us to a dealer nearby. No problem but had to order part.

Jan 09 - called repair shop-no part yet-call Toshiba- still waiting for part from overseas. Part should be in by last week of February. After superbowl - still no part. Toshiba said no longer make this TV but could replace it with the new tv that took place of ours - The Regza 46RV535U. Did not want smaller TV but Toshiba insisted that the new TV was comparable to ours. Looked it up on their website..Looks okay but how do you know for sure - DO NOT EXCHANGE YOUR TV without checking it out really well...We took Toshiba's word that we were getting a good exchange.
Please inform complaint # 406522 to be very careful..He is being offered exchange by Toshiba - a downgrade also

They faxed us a letter to sign and fax back and then they called and made arrangement for the exchange.

Mar 5,2009 - got new TV today - NOT THE SAME TV by far-Called Toshiba back and spoke to a supervisor named Rick. I advised him this was not a comparable TV...There was a very bad glare ( which is why we got the other one - no glare) and the picture and sound was not good and that we were very unhappy with the exchange. He said I should have gone to a store and checked out the TV before I signed the LEGAL DOCUMENT - now the exchange was made and nothing could be done. I asked if they could send the other TV back and we will continue to wait for the part. I even offered to pay the shipping. The answer was a flat NO. He was very rude and I guess he tired of my complaining and HUNG UP ON ME...

We bought a $2000 TV and did everything by the book when it needed repair and followed the warranty procedures. We now have a TV that is not worth nearly that price. We went back to were we bought it today and they could not believe Toshiba would ask us to Downgrade and told us their is a very big difference in the 2 TV's- ours had special coating to prevent glare- 4 speakers- 2 tweeters and surround sound..the new one has none of this and is smaller too. We have been robbed and are just sick about it!
