I purchased four Monster High Sweet 1600 dolls at the Madison Heights, MI Toys R us on 12/05/2011 for $ 26.99 each.  On 12/22/2011 the same dolls where offered on sale for a Buy one get one 50% off.  The individual price on that date was $32.99.  I feel that this is unfair pricing and just bad business.  When I went to the customer service to voice my complaint, I was told that the difference in pricing was due to the vendor.  When I spoke to the manager she quickly reminded me I had "only 14 days for an adjustment".  When I questioned the difference in price the manager stated "we adjust prices daily".  This is just bad business!!

Do you seriously not know how basic sales work?

I have never understood how customers can misunderstand the basic concept of how a sale works.

"We change prices daily" was a poor explanation, but it is basically the truth when you're talking about sales. When you bought the items for $26.99, they were ON SALE for that amount. The REGULAR PRICE of the item was, at that time, and remained LONG after that time, $32.99. The $32.99 is ALWAYS the price of the item but the SALE price will vary daily/weekly/hourly depending on the season and the promotion at the time.

When you came in weeks later because you wanted the "buy one get one 50%" sale price instead, You DO realize that almost every single retailer in every single city in every single state ANYWHERE.... when they offer ANY kind of BOGO, you're paying REGULAR PRICE for the first item, and the second item gets the sale price (whether it be half price, free, whatever). 

Any time you do a return, price adjustment, whatever.... You are returned or credited against your new purchase, the price you previously paid, which was whatever the item was on sale for at the time. The SALE price you paid initially is no longer valid, no longer offered, no longer option, as they are obviously then under a DIFFERENT promotional price or you wouldn't be in the store to get the new price. Then you are re-purchasing the item, but you are paying the price the item is AT THAT TIME, which is the SAME base price the item was when you bought it the first time, only the item had a sale price on each individual item which is NO LONGER VALID. THIS TIME, with the "buy one get one" you buy one at REGULAR PRICE ($32.99) and the second at half of that price, roughly $16.50)

These are two entirely separate sales, two entirely different ads, two entirely different offers made at two entirely different points in time. They do not combine as one. You get one, or you get the other. You don't get to buy one at the sale price you previously paid and then get another one for half of that sale price. It just doesn't work that way.

And yes, the "price adjustment" period is 14 days. But that's usually irrelevant. You can usually just bring in the receipt and the item can be returned off the receipt which will clearly show the price you paid for it, AND the form of tender you used. Then the guest service team member can immediately turn the return into a sale and apply what you paid towards your new total.

You ARE NOT, I repeat ARE NOT being ripped off, over charged, any of the above. What you ARE doing, is wanting something for nothing and griping when you don't like the way things are. Nobody's cheating you. And the stores aren't gonna let you cheat them either.

Believe it or not, people who work guest service usually will do what they can to help you, if the request is reasonable. But please understand the basics of shopping before you start saying something is "bad business" or "unfair pricing".

   My local gas station adjusts prices daily.   My local supermarket adjusts prices daily.  Most stores adjust prices daily.    How is that "bad business"?

   If you don't like the price at this store, I suggest you take your business to a store that has a lower price.   That's how the free market operates.   Every business (except regulated monopolies) operates on this concept.
