I am a certified medical transcriptionist and medical coder. I received this email asking me if I would like to work for this company. I had no intentions of working for them, but being the person I am, I researched them, especially when I learned I had to buy THEIR software.

Now I know, being a transcriptionist, there has been occassion where I have had to purchase certain software in order to perform my transcription duties but that was STRICTLY with private practices where I would be working from home. When they told me that my universal pedal probably wouldn't work with their software and that I would probably have to purchase their pedal, I knew something was wrong. My pedal has worked with every software that has been thrown at me so far. Any transcription jobs I have obtained through legitimate transcription companies almost always sent a CD back up copy of the software as well. TransAm never answered me when I asked them that question. What I CAN tell you is it is NEVER downloaded strictly offline (the software).

So I checked with the Chamber that they are listed with, they are members, but they are not active members. Heck anybody can join the chamber of commerce. ANYBODY. The Better Business Bureau gave them a failing grade. There were THOUSANDS of bad reports against them just like here. I don't mean hundreds, I mean THOUSANDS, (I have researched them for over a month now) thats a pretty large complaint history for any company. I also know that with transcription, you have the ability to contact the doctor you are working with, or the company you are working with to get a clearer idea of what a doctor may be saying in their report. It is FEDERAL LAW that you can clarify if you don't understand what a doctor is reporting rather then make a mistake on a medical report. Anybody that is an Allied Health worker knows the ins and outs of the importance of being able to clarify rather then writing what they think they hear. I was informed that Transam does not do that and that they refuse to release any doctors names or information about them. Red flag number 50.

So I went a step further and I started talking to doctors and the local hospitals in this area, and when I went to a hospital administrator with what I have learned, he informed me that he is going to file a report against them with AIMHA as well as with the ANA because YOU HAVE TO BE CERTIFIED TO TRANSCRIBE. So the whole no experience necessary is what threw me through a loop in the first place. I have talked to a lot of people who said they never made it past their training to ever get jobs and that when they went on to a real certification course, the training they got wasn't even right in the first place. Then I did my last bit of research. I went to speak to a live chat operator. Also having a degree in computer sciences I was able to figure something out. Their "live chat" is automated and scripted to catch certain words in order to answer questions. I went in 5 different times and changed my questions using key words and got the same scripted answers over and over again. I took the time to research them extensively because I am tired of seeing people who want to work for a living get scammed out of their hard earned money.

On another note, I used three different emails and replied to them using my maiden name, my married name and my boyfriends last name, and each time their "policies" changed Ie payment arrangements, and their time frame to "do this before our free training offer" expires changed as well. I certainly hope in this day and age of all the work from home scams, people are becoming aware of the fact that they need to do extensive research before they pay ANY kind of money to ANY business.
