On 2/26/19 I went onto the Travelocity website to book a round-trip ticket for me and my wife from Colorado to California for a funeral. After specifying the arrival and departure dates a list of possible fares came up and I selected the "cheapest" option at the top of the list. It was stated to be nonrefundable but I assumed that I could change it if I needed to.

I tried to find the exact itinerary before booking the flight but the way the booking procedure is designed is that you have to confirm and PAY for the tickets before you can see the itinerary. I foolishly went ahead and booked it anyway, again assuming that I could change the arrival and/or departure times if they weren't what I needed. This was an incorrect assumption. I noticed right away that the departure time would not allow me enough time to attend the service and get to the airport in time for the flight so I tried to change the time but there is no way you can do this online. I tried calling customer support but was informed that the ticket could not be refunded, changed in any way or even used as a credit for future travel.

I did buy travel insurance when booking the flight and am in the process of filing a claim in order to (hopefully) recover the money I spent (about $1,020.00). So I would recommend not purchasing the "cheapect" fare on the Travelocity website as you cannot see the itinerary before buying and it can't be altered after buying. Or better yet, avoid the Travelocity website altogether!

What do you mean?

AUTHOR: voiceofreason - (United States)

What exactly do you mean when you say you can't see the itinerary before purchasing? Travelocity shows you the expected departure and arrival times of both the outgoing and return flights.

How else could anyone even pick a flight?

Every travel site shows the same stuff.

You see all the times, whether its non stop or with connections.

What exactly prevented you from planning the outbound flight that gave you enough time to make it from the destination airport to the service?

Were you trying to cut the flight outbound to the bone time-wise to the point you left yourself no margin for error, such as delays? Normally, when you have at least a days notice of a funeral, which most people do, you fly out no later than the night before to ensure you're there on time. Nobody can bank on flights not being delayed these days.

Sorry, not trying to pick on you. Just not getting what you say you weren't given before paying.

Your assumptions do not make it a RipOff

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

You know what happens when you "assume". Instead of reading the terms and conditions you are required to confirm you read and agreed to before the purchase, you just "assumed" you could do things that you can't. The only RipOff in this case is the one you caused yourself.

Travelocity is not unique and this is nothing different how any other travel sites "hidden" deals work. Regardless of the site they would have denied you the ability to change the flight, because it would have been something  that YOU agreed to. Yes those terms do actually mean something.

These types of fares can be great if you have an open schedule, which you did not. If the schedule was that important to you then when you couldn't find it you should have looked at a different fare or as you like to say "better yet" actually READ the terms to make sure you could change the flight if the times didn't work out.

As for your insurance claim. Good Luck but don't expect the insurance to approve the claim just because the times don't work out for you.
