I moved from Charlotte, NC in March of 2002, I used United Express Van Lines as movers. They initially quoted me a price under $1,000, as I was moving from a 1 bedroom house with no appliances. Needless to say, they were over 8 hours late and when everything was finally on the truck, I was advised that my bill would be $2,500.
I was in total disbelief, the guy told me that he would give me a break on the packing materials, well I didn't know they cost extra money, seeing that the movers boxed everything without advising me of the price. I gave them everything that I had at that time, $900 dollars as originally quoted.
It's been a while since I have been able to come up with the rest of the money. I have been in contact with the company throughout the duration. I have finally come up with the money and am ready to send it. There is one problem, when I call their phone number, it puts me directly in touch with a voice mail that's usually full. Someone has emptied this voice mail at least twice, because I left several messages. The worst part is that no one has called me back.
I am now seeking to go after their insurance company for the total loss of my things, although I would rather have my items. If anyone can offer assistance on how to get in touch with these crooks, please contact me througt the rebuttal.
Signed, extremely mad with these crooks

Same situation in IL- FBI found belongings!

I read your report and we went through the same thing in our move to the Chicago area in IL. I saw that you moved to Chicago too. Don't bother with contacting them anymore- they've been shut down. Our first step was to file a report with the FBI from the link you will find with the sites about United Express Vanlines. Next we contacted the investigator who eventually was able to locate our stuff and we signed a document claiming our items and picked them up ourselves. They were being stored in Schaumberg, IL at Shurgard Storage. I know that they had several units with belongings of people in the same situation, but had not been able to find them yet. Since you are in Chicago, maybe they used that facility for your stuff too.
Good Luck

Have you caught the news in the past month or so? I'm pretty sure United Express was part of the huge crackdown in FL on scam movers. You can't get through to anyone on the phone because the company no longer exists!
