I am responding to a number of complaints on here about payments, etc.. taking so long to get anywhere. For the last year, we have had a lot of problems with the mail. I was told it could take up to 17 days for a bill to go one mile from my house to City Hall. So now I have to pay my electric bill in person to avoid being disconnected, even though they say my payment could take 17 days to get to them, they will not give their disconnect notices 17 days to get to my house!

The USPS is our only choice for delivering daily mail, and they are doing a poor job. Items that used to go to their destination in 2 days, I now have to send a week or more ahead of time. A lot of these complaints are about companies holding your payments that you know you sent, however, I am willing to bet that it took the USPS that long to get your envelope there! I am not the only one this has been happening too! I have heard numerous complaints lately about how long it takes the mail to run.

I even finally called to report the problem with the local Postmaster, and after 2 weeks of trying to get someone to returm my call, I was told that there wasn't much they could do! Because the USPS is the only choice we have, they don't have to do a good job anymore! Our tax dollars will pay them whether the mail takes 2 days or 3 weeks. Why should they care? It's not like I can take my business elsewhere! Except for privatizing, which could be a disaster, I don't even have a solution! Chalk up another one for the USPS!

Liars

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

I have a very good idea why don't we not pay any taxes to the federal government for letting the postal service lie to a newspaper in Cumberland,Maryland in saying one day they have no intention of moving their processing station from Cumberland to Frederick and the next day they say they now have plans of moving their processing station to Frederick. I would also boycott the United States Postal Service for lying to people in that area into thinking they were not moving the processing station. So people start using a private mail and packaging company instead of the government run United States Postal Service known as (USPS).

no tax dollars

Your right Jason - the postal service does not receive tax dollars.

I however, do not like to use USPS for packages but seem to be pretty good with everyday mail even if a little slower than they used to be.

Internet is definitely your friend when paying bills!

Tax dollars?

I may be incorrect, but I do not believe the USPS receives any of our tax dollars for operations. They receive all their money through services they sell, be it stamps, PO Boxes, etc, etc.

I have never had any problems with the USPS delivering mail in a timely fashion. Figure 5-7 days from East Cost to West Coast and in area being next day. Though this is NOT guaranteed. Technically you know that dropping a letter in the mail means it gets there when it gets there. 17 days is excessive for anything to get d**n near anywhere in the world, excluding customs holds.

For small extra fees, you can have return receipts. And as for 'daily mail'... Technically you could send everything out UPS, but it's gonna cost more than the 37 cents that the USPS charges.

The easiest way is to pay your bill online. Duke Power allows online payment for no extra charge, as does most every other company in the US now. Then the payment is received immediately.
