I am so frustrated with University of Phoenix Online and if anyone is REALLY going for a class action lawsuit... I am IN! I was a single mother when I found this 'godsend' of a school! I had a baby at home and thought that it would be a perfect way for me to get my degree. I started the classes and I really enjoyed it! I started getting frustrated when 'team members' started dropping out and noone was accepting accountability, not even the teachers! I ended up doing an entire Powerpoint presentation and was very upset that my teacher never even made a comment about this.

I got pregnant again, and had to leave school for the delivery. The school seemed to be very understanding. In fact, my 'advisor' told me that I would not be penalized and congratulations!

Well, when I returned to the school it was another story. Apparently, the loan had been 'returned' and now, in order to resume 'classes' -- if that's what they were -- I needed to pay back the loan (total of $580.00). I didn't question -- looking back, I should have -- and paid back. Talked to a new advisor and they said that it was too late to pay back the loan -- which they never told me -- and that I would need to re-enroll.

Of course, I tried to re-enroll, and they asked me for all kinds of documentation, and believe it or not, MORE money. I was really getting tired of this, but I had a great 4.0 average, and did not want to let that go to waste. They also informed me that, with my transfer credit from another university, that I had qualified for an Associate's Degree. I was thrilled, but still have not received any solid documentation stating this.

Now, about 3 years later, I am looking to go back to school now that my children are not babies anymore, and I cannot contact anyone for my transcripts!! I am so frustrated. And I am worried, now, after reading everyone else's reports, that this school has just been a TOTAL waste of my time! I was depending on that Associate's Degree, so that I could go on to pursue my Bachelor's!

Oh well, maybe I should just forget about it and move forward, but I'll tell you -- I know what you are saying about being taken advantage of, because I was a single mother when I started this God-forsaken school, and now I am going through a divorce with 2 children and I just want my degree, dammit! I worked hard at these classes (staying up into the wee hours of the night practically every night -- try that with, not one, but 2 screaming, fussy, colicky babies -- it was hell!

There, I said it! Well, if there is anyone out there who is serious about this class-action lawsuit, I AM IN!!!

By the way, has anyone ever heard of NelNet Student Loans? Are they a real loan agency and can they interfere with transferring to a new ( real ) college with financial aid? I am really worried, because they sent me a bill (I never applied to their company) for close to $3,000.00 and, due to my divorce I can't pay it right now. While they are being understanding about it and 'freezing' the account, I want to know if I owe them at all for these last few years of University of Phoenix crap!!

Response to Class Action Lawsuit against UoP, Susan

AUTHOR: Suzanne - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, April 06, 2006

Count me in Susan. I was ripped-off as well, $24,000.00 later to be exact. I only liked 6 classes finishing when I was "locked out of my next class" over 'UoP's' mishandling of my Student loan disbursements, and demanding $388.00 one time and over $1800.00 another time, suppose to pay someone's salary or something?

I think we need to get them on 60 minutes or Dateline or something..... Get the public's attention, regarding this less than desireable "Online College". Their staff is incompetent, rude and crude.

I have started at another online University, and only hope that my credits from UOP will transfer, if not, then it will certainly add to the SCANDAL this school has perpetrated against individuals wanting to further their careers through the online school environment.

Again count me in, if there is a way, I am entertaining the litigation aspect as well.

Lloyd, look into Northwestern a little closer

AUTHOR: Brian - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 21, 2006

Lloyd,

Northwestern looks like a good school, but I suggest you look at others such as Strayer, your state schools, Walden, Capella... Look at the program data that The NCA of the HLC stated about student population, degrees acually warded and total campus enrollments.

Though the Northcental site IMPLIES that there are residency requirements for PhDs at their competition listed, that may be due to regulatory issues (Education degrees, for example). Additionally, those residency requirements are typically tied to on-campus enrollment. Programs like those from UOP Online and Western International University Interactive, Strayer, and Walden Online DO NOT have residency requirement (unless using Federal Financial Aid).

I did not want to forget that I do not care for Learning Teams in the Online environment, but they have been proven most effective in on-campus learning.

Last, I too have used NelNet for my Undergraduate loan servicing from my studies in Texas. I am not sure, but I believe that they are a subsidiary of Chase now, but I may be wrong. Regardless, I am very satisfied with their help and servicing of my Federal Loans to date.

Good luck to you!

Sincerely,
Brian

NCU may run UOP out of business

AUTHOR: Lloyd - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 21, 2006

I received the bachelor degree from Phoenix and the masters from Davenport. I am looking at Northcentral for the doctorates. During my research for online study institutions I find that NCU does not have all that team study crap. I like the individual effort of learning, but UOP is all about the team stuff. Now I do realize that there are times when teams can be important, and working with teams in a learning environment has benefit. However, I am not supportive when team cooperation affects the GPA. If students want to get a good education through online studies I suggest researching Northcentral; they may be the ones that run UOP out of business. Plus, NelNet is a good loan provider.

Obtaining Transcripts

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 20, 2006

You need to get on the web page and obtain the transcripts that way or calling their main office number in Phoenix. The school is highly accredited and they have a good nursing and MBA program. As all it is what you make of it.
