I had two accounts with US Bank, one for checking and one for savings.
One day my checking account was fine and then the next my account went into overdraft, they charged me $8 a day in fees the next thing i knew I was $300 over drawn so i began dumping all i could into my checking account. No matter how much I deposited it wasn't enough - the fees ate me alive.
The next thing i knew they began taking what little money i had in savings into my checking account and they then threw my savings account into overdraft. I was not told of these out rageous fees when i opened my account or that they would rob my pittiful savings account by transferring the funds into the checking account without notice or permission.
Then I got a letter in the mail saying my checking account had been closed due to an out standing overdraft of $431, then the following week I received another letter stating that the same account had been closed and I owed them around $650. How can a closed account accrue over $200 in debt after its been closed?
Three weeks later I received another letter stating that my savings account had been closed due to an over draft of $34.
What does not seem right about this, especially in this day of hard economic times?

the issue...

The issue here isn't whether he overdrafted his account or not. I'm not questioning that. The "rip off" here was that they took more money out of savings than was actually in there to pay the charges on the checking account. Legally, they CAN do this. However, they can't take more than what's in the account. That is illegal. I know this because this happened to my wife at a different bank and I was forced to research this to figure out if they could do that or not. I found out they could not so when I confronted them with this information and threatened a lawsuit, they reversed all the overdraft charges that THEY had caused. Therefore, when US Bank took funds out of his savings account to pay off the checking and they took more than was actually in the account, they broke the law.

He overdrafted. He won't admit it, but he did. Submit to the fee, buddy.

You fail to mention whether the overdraft was legitimate or not. You say, "then the next my account was into overdraft." Did you actually overdraw your account, or did USBank make an error?
If you did indeed overdraw your account, there is no rip off here.

I went through the similar thing

I went through the same thing. Not as bad as your case but close. You need to realize that US Bank is fee driven! They post things very weird as well. They pay the most expensive items first and then the small ones. If you make a deposit after 3pm it goes to the next day not immediately. If you are even 1 cent overdrawn they charge you a overdraft fee. I got fed up and did something about it and you can too....
Switch to a credit union! I have Selco community credit union and they are the best un bank I have ever had. They won't allow you to overdraw your account. If you use your card and there is not enough money in your account to cover the item the charge is denied. The only exception is if you present a check that will be paid and you get charged a fee for the paid item. I have a $300 overdraft allotment so I can overdraw my account up to $300 and they will still pay the item and charge me a $25 fee. I have only had to use this one time.
Banks are fee driven and credit unions are customer driven. There is no comparison.
I hope this helps.

Did you overdraft your account?
You knew about the overdraft fees. They are in the blue envelope that was given to you when you opened your account.
