I made a reservation at Value Place hotel for a non-smoking single bed through its manager Yvette Applekamp. Upon my arrival she told me that she only had a smoking room available and her co-worker Zack (or Zeek?) informed me that she had me register as 2 people (which would have cost more for a single bed). I corrected him and informed that it was only myself. I ended up with a non-smoking 2 bedroom. In addition, Ms Applekamp stated that for some reason the computer charged me an extra $6.00 and she does not know why. She explained that she would reimburse directly, cash, me for the additional amount. I was never given the reimbursement).

After a week stay (8/9/10), I decided to pay for the month and asked Ms Applekamp could I use 2 different debit cards to pay, she assured me that I could do this. I stressed to Ms. Applekamp the necessity of making separate billings on each card (one for $650.00 and the balance on the other card). Ms. Applekamp ended up over drafting my checking account by making an additional unauthorized payment on my business card. When I became aware of this after business hours, I called the night person, Charlie, who was on duty and explained the matter to him. He advised that it was not him that did this transaction and that he only works there. He began to talk over me as I tried to explain to him that I did not authorize the second charge on this card. I asked for the number to there regional office and he would not give it to me, but advised that he would call Ms. Applekamp. He later called back and told me that he was in the office attempting to credit the amount back to my card and that Ms. Applekamp was on the other line directing him how to work the process on the computer. He expressed difficulty in doing the process and I again asked that he give me the number to their main or regional office. He yet would not give me the number but repeated my request to Ms Applekamp and she then called me later. She advised that what happen was not her fault, it was the computers fault. Because I know she had blamed the computer for the overcharge in my previous transaction, I became upset and asked again for their main office, she too would not give me the number. She offered me to have the month stay at the cost of the $650.00 only and stated that she would credit the additional amount charged back to my card back to my account. While waiting days for the money to credit back to my bank account, I began to accrue overdraft fees. I called the desk again after hours and got Charlie and he again proceeded to tell me that he did not do this and that I should not take it out on him because he only works there. As before, he got loud and would talk over me. The next day I brought this matter to Ms. Applekamp (the overdraft fees) and she blamed my bank for the problem. Ms Applekamp, as with Charlie would not take responsibility for anything that would come up for all the problems (it was either the computer or my banks fault).

While living there for the month payment made, I had other incidents. The first involved my going to the desk and having Zack (Zeek?) to fax my time sheet to my job. When he reported to have faxed the document, I asked could I have a confirmation sheet and he sternly said to me it went through. As a result of this, I did not get my paycheck for that month as my employer stated that they did not receive the fax and I had no proof that I had sent the fax to them. I explained this to Yvette as well, but never got confirmation that it went through.

I also had my mail coming to the Value Place address as well. I came back to the hotel after work and was told by Charlie that I had mail and that it was put in my room. When I went to the room to get the mail, it was a package with another ladies name on it. I took the package to Charlie and told him this was not my mail. He informed me that my mail was my bank statement and it must have went to someone elses room. He then informed that the mix up with the mail was not his fault because he knew which room I was in (again, no one taking responsibility for any problems that occur at Value Place). He eventually was able to find the hotel room where my bank statement with all my bank information went to.

The problems continued when I went to wash clothes and put my money ($1.50) in the dryer . The dryer would not work. I informed Zack of the problem and he informed me that these were not Value Places machines, therefore, it was not there fault. I was told that I would have to use another dryer as the one I used was broken and that another lady before me had lost her money in the machine as well (yet there was no out of order sign posted). I told Zack that I did not have any more change for the dryer. He advised that he would get me change for a dollar at the desk. I gave him my dollar and met him at the desk to get my change. Ms. Applekamp was at the desk at this time and sat there not saying anything about the matter. At this point Zack then told me that he only had .75 to give me back in change from the desk drawer. Ms Applekamp yet set there and did not say anything. She appeared angry. Zack then explained to her directly that I needed change for the dryer and he only had .75 to give me for the change of my dollar. Ms Applekamp began to fuss stating that the machines is not there machines and they are not responsible. While yet fussing, she went in her pocket, pulling out change as it was falling out onto her desk. She then gave the extra quarter to Zack and he gave it to me. I also asked for an updated ID and password for my computer and Ms Applekamp slammed the document with the ID and password on the counter. I chose not to respond to Ms. Applekamps fussing and bad attitude. At this point I was too tired and frustrated with the whole matter. I never did get the money back that I put into the broken machine.

Because I had paid for the next month (8/9/10- 9/8/10) for 30 days, I had plans to be out of town for the labor day weekend. On 9/3/10, while at work, I was about to leave and get on the highway for the weekend and holiday, but decided to call Ms Applekamp to see if I could get different room when I got back because I do not do well on lower level floors. She firmly told me no and informed that she does not have another room for me and that the noise level would be getting worst (I had talked to Charlie one night about something seeming to be slamming and running across the floor above me- this was about 11:30 pm- his eventual response was well this is a hotel) . I then informed Ms Applekamp that I would need to make next week 9/9/10 my last day. She then informed me that my day was up as of today because my account was know at zero. I reminder her that I was paid up for a month. She then informed that the time was for 28 days and that any date seen on the receipt she gave me is not usually accurate. In my mind I was thinking that even if it was 28 days, I am yet on my 24th day. It appeared that Ms. Applekamp was trying to renig on her payment agreement for the $650.00 for an entire month. I told her that I would need time to find another place and would make another week payment (yet too tire and frustrated to argue). She informed that I would have to come into the office to make that payment. When I arrive to the office Ms Applekamp explanation to me had changed. She then informed me that my room had been reserved for someone else and then had me to leave. I explained to Ms. Applekamp that it was not I who did anything wrong to be treated in this manner. She agreed that I had not did anything wrong, but advised that the hotel was booked up and I lost my room. I asked how could she have reserved the room if all of my belongings were yet in the room. She advised that she was going to have them boxed and placed in storage. I asked could I get them now. She gave me the card key and I went upstairs and packed my items at the spare of the moment. It was about 97 degrees outside and this was a very difficult task for me. While packing my car another resident approached me ( I did not know this lady and never have talked to her about this matter) and asked was Ms Applekamp giving me problems with my money as well. I told her yes that I was having problems with her keeping her agreements with my payments and explained my situation to her. She informed that she too had experienced similar problems. I found out her name, but she informed me that she did not want to file a complaint at this time due to her having to yet live there and she did not want any further problems with the hotel.

With the hotel and staff being new, as Ms. Applekamp had advised me at one time, I was really trying to overlook all the mishaps, but it seemed that they would not stop! And no one would take responsibility for them. As a result of there incompetence, Ms Applekamp had me to leave. I had an appointment out of town the day that Ms. Apple amp put me out and as a result of this matter with Ms. Applekamp, I was extremely late for my appointment and my clothes and appearance was drenched in sweat.

When I requested again, on the day that Ms Applekamp had me to leave, I did receive a phone number from her for their headquarter office- finally! I called the number, explained my situation and left my name and number for a return call. As of this day, I have not received a return call. Also, as I was about to leave Ms Applekamp added an additional $25.00 charge for the room as she stated that it was for todays date. I had left out of the room about 7:30 am for work, so how can I be charged for the room if I had not been in it since 7am in that morning?

In resolving this matter, I will not asked for the money lost for a non-confirmed fax ($1.00) that did not go through nor for the money lost in the dryer, however, I am asking that I be reimbursed for the less than 30 ( or 28, whichever is the truth) days that remained for my monthly payment and the $25.00 charged as I was leaving. In resolving her mistakes (Ms Applekamp) on charging my card, she gave me an agreement for the $650 for the month and I am yet holding her to it and responsible. Because of the confrontation from the lady in the parking lot, I am considering taking this matter to the Attorney Generals office. I would also like for my personal attorney ( (Merritt Flebotte Wilson Webb & Caruso, PLLC) to check into this matter, particularly if I find that my bank account has been tampered with as a result of Value Place leaving my bank statement in someone elses room. Im pretty sure that the lady whose package was left in my room may have some concerns of her own. I am also asking for an apology for all that I have went through while staying there- particularly from Ms Applekamp. I know I did not deserve to be treated like some trash set out on the street.
