I was working for my father, when I got a voicemail from a woman about working for Volt. I was unsure about it, so I called. The woman who answered the phone went by the name of Mitsy. She asked me if I was interested in making $13.60 per hour. Since I had been making $11.00 an hour, I thought of it as a better deal. Little did I konw, I'd be regretting it today. I filled an application out on Volt.com. She told me that I would be working at Snap-On Tools in Elkmont, AL. She said that i would start out as temporary, and that Snap-On would eventually hire me on as permenant. I felt this would be a good move for me. I got hired on and went to Snap-On the next day. I was trained and learned everything as quickly as I could. I began to notice that Snap-On had mostly temp employees on my shift. I worked non-stop at Snap-On. I did all I could to show improvement. I went through two weeks of no pay because the plant was closed for the holidays.

Also at snap on, we had one 15 minute break and two 10 minute breaks. It took about a minute or two to get to the break room, and we had to be back by the time the bell rang, so we ended up getting about seven minutes average for each break before going back to the machine and running in circles all day to make sure we got the amount of parts they asked for.

One girl had been there as a temp for eight months. She had missed countless days because she said she was sick. I had missed none. I planned on maintaining a good attendance record for as long as possible. There were two people hired about two months after me. It has been over three months that I have worked at Snap-On tools. Today, the day after my birthday, the Human Resources lady came up to me before i went to my machine. She told me that the company was having to cut back on some people and that I was one of them. The other workers, even the ones hired after me, went to their stations.

I turned in my badge and drove home, still trying to replay the situation through my head. It just didn't seem right. Volt had not contacted me to tell me that I was no longer needed. I thought they would have to by law. We had a big snow storm one day, and the plant was closed. Volt did not contact any of the temporary employees to let them know not to come in. I would like to state that Volt is a rip-off and I will refuse to go back on that statement.

With the way the economy is right now, we do not need companies like this to thrive. It almost seems like Volt and Snap-On had a joint rip-off going on. I would most certianly appreciate some feedback, and if anyone sees a reason for me to send one or both of these companies to court, please contact me ASAP. Thank you.

You were hired as a "temp" with the opportunity to learn a trade, make better money, get in the door with an incredibly reputable company and an opportunity to get hired there and you're complaining??!

From the tone of your complaint(s) I can see why you were let go first.  The worst thing that happened here is you had a higher paying job in a great company that you can add to your resume.  Grow up.
