The ads sounded so good. I signed up August 22. Received the unit in the mail. In the meantime, I had several outages with my cable company. That pointed out to me that if I signed with Vonage and my cable continued to go out, I would also have no phone access. If I had no phone access, I would have no MODEM access and therefore NO internet access. I could do without a phone, but not without internet access.

Although I received the Vonage unit, I never hooked it up. I received a few calls from Vonage offering to help me get hooked up, but I refused their offer and told them I had changed my mind and wanted to return the unit.

My first FREE months bill was $62.27. I have yet to figure how they calculate Aug. 22 to Oct. 22 as 3 months. They told me I had not cancelled in the first month and that I owed for 3 months plus activation fees, service charges, taxes, emergency 911 fees, etc. etc. The total finally came to $186.92 never to have used their service. I personally would like to see them sued right out of business.

I do not have it backwards.

If I sign up with Vonage and drop my land line, then cable tv, internet, AND Vonage(phone), which are dependent on my cable working, will also go out. (You stated that twice in your rebuttal.) That is way to much dependence on a single sometimes erratic service.

I elected to NOT sign with Vonage and to keep my land line phone. That way even if my cable is out, I still have a working land line phone AND internet access via phone modem, which, albeit slow, will still work. That is not backwards. That is prudent and effective.

You neglected to address the REAL issue in this thread which is how Vonage constantly rips people off. I NEVER used the service OR the equipment and Vonage charged me $186.00 for NOTHING! If Vonage returns my $186.00 I will stop bashing them and think they might not be so bad after all. Until that happens, it's open season. I intend to keep bashing as much as Vonage bashed me to get their much undeserved money!

No, you have it completely backwards ! If your CABLE goes out, then your INTERNET will go out with it, and then you would lose your phone as well. Your modem uses the cable's broadband to access the internet. Vonage uses exactly the same broadband to access the phone lines. Vonage uses VoIP ( Voice over Internet Protocol ) to do this. It does NOT cause your internet to go out. However, if your cable goes out, so does your internet and so will your Vonage. Each is dependent on the broadband signal.

If your cable goes out a lot, then your internet must be going out at the same time. If not, then the problem is with your set top cable box. If this is the case, then it would have absolutely NO effect on Vonage. Next time your cable is off, check your internet connection. If both are out...then, of course, your phone would be out also. In either event, you need to have so serious conversations with your cable company about signal loss.
