In September 2008 I recieved a summons from Wakefield & Associates with demand for payment from 3 different agencies (Westlake Greens & 2 for Carepoint *doctors bills*). The bill was paid within 15 days of reciept of the summons even though the people at Wakefield were EXTREMELY rude and hung up on me several times while was trying to negotiate payment with them. They acted very entitled and very arrogant. When we paid we requested a letter stating the bill was paid in full. We never recieved said letter and never really worried about it because we had the credit card statment showing we paid them.

Last night I pulled my credit reports and all 3 listings showed. The Westlake Greens listing showed paid and closed but the 2 doctors listings showed not paid and still out for collections. I figured this is an easy fix, I call Wakefield and ask them to update my credit report and they do it and we are OK. WRONG! So I called and asked them to 1st verify that my account was paid in full. They verified that no problem.

I asked if they could update my credit report to reflect that the account was paid. They told me NO! They said if my credit report doens't reflect the account as paid I need to dispute the listing. I told them I already had but I was hoping they could expidite things for my by doing their job by reporting it correctly. They said they would not do it and the only way to get the listing fixed is to dispute it.

So I asked them for a letter stating the account is paid they said I had to wait and they transfered me to the legal department. I asked the person who answered the phone if they could send me a letter showing the account is paid. She said "No, we sent you a letter in September and we only send one. If you didn't keep it that is not our problem." I told the lady that I never recieved a letter and I just would like a statment showing the account is paid so I can give it to a potential landlord. She said "I TOLD YOU NO AND THAT IS THE ONLY ANSWER YOU WILL GET FROM US!" She promptly hung up on me.

I called back and got a nicer person named Oscar. He told me that because I he is not in the legal department he cannot print the statment but if I drove over he is sure they would print me one. He was nice but cannot actually help me...at least he didn't hang up on me...which is a real problem with these people.

My advice is if you must deal with these people, record your phone calls...keep every scrap of paper they give you, and the best thing you can do is pay in person so you can get proof of payment right when you pay (otherwise you will never get it).
