Went to Wal-Mart tire & lube in Newington Ct on Dec. 24 2008 for a new battery for 1985 Honda Accord that was in excellent condition until they got their hands on it. Also asked to have the high milage oil change done as the car had 94,000 original miles on it.

Went shopping in the store, went back in 45 min. was met by 2 of the men working on my car, they told me "I" had a problem with my car, asked what they meant, they said they hooked the new battery up and it instantly blew out the "main fuse" for the entire car, said they never seen anything like it before and one of the workers were on their way to Pep Boy for a new main fuse. I stood there watching as the guy came back with the new fuse and they put it in, it instantly blew out the main fuse AGAIN...I then proceeded out to the bay where my car was and looked at the area where the battery is, I IMMEDITATLY noticed the cables hooked up to the battery were hooked up incorrectly, the positive was hooked to the negative and the negative was hooked to the positive.

I then said to the 3 MEN standing there, I don't think the cables are hooked up correctly you have the positive on the negative, they all looked at each other and said oh my god...so wonder man went BACK to pep boys for ANOTHER main fuse, came back it was fine, I pulled out noticed a light was lit on the dashboard indicating "brake lamp" went right back told them the light was NOT lit when I pulled in...they could not find anything wrong...the manager, Tony told me to take it Friday, the day after Christmas to a mechanic and if the mechanic indicated it was due to WalMart hooking the battery cables up wrong that WalMart would take care of the cost I paid to correct the problem. Left again, got 1/4 mile away, put my headlights on as it was raining noticed I had NO DASHBOARD lights at all...went right back, again they said they did not know what was wrong and Tony the manager irriterated AGAIN to take it to another mechanic Friday and WalMart would reemburse me if it was a Wal-Mart error.

So far I have paid VERY close to 700.00 for repairs for the damage they caused by hooking up the cables wrong. The car still has NO dashboard lights at night time, you cannot tell how fast you are going in the dark. CANNOT find the parts I need that a repitable mechanic listed on the repair was burnt out by Wal-Mart's stupidity of hooking the cables up wrong, not once but twice. Now Wal-mart is claiming no liability for what happened and say they did NOT hook the cables up wrong. As for the oil change, the mechanic found the oil filter they put in was crushed and damaged and he had to use a crow bar to get the oil filter off and out of there so he could put a new one in.

On top of that they never hooked the battery up on it's holder tray so it wouldn't move, the battery was sliding all over as the car was driven. So now I am filing a complaint with the Dealer & Repairer department at Motor Vehicles...I say to everyone who walmart did damage to your car...go to Motor vehicles in whatever state you live in and file a complaint...together maybe we can get results....

Wally World does not hire mechanics. They hire kids in high school(or just out) to do what real shops pay minimum wage for.

A real shop would charge more for the battery because it would be a good one, not the Neverstart one you got. They would also charge for the labor to install because it takes time to do the job correctly. Doing the job incorrectly is cheaper in the short run, but far more costly in the long run...as you have learned.
