My mom has noticed for 2 months charges for an automotive policy on their discover card. They cannot remember ordering such a policy. We contacted warranty activation headquarters who stated that my parents had to provide a vehicle VIN number and the credit card number. The person on the phone at warranty activation headquarters just stated that my parents must have given them a VIN number and their card number in order for any policy to be purchased from them. I stated that my parents would not have been in posession of their VIN number (a complicated number for anyone to recite). We asked the representative to provide proof (a recording of the purchase) of purchase. He indicated that he'd speak to his supervisor. My parents were disputing the charges to their card. At this time, they will dispute the charges with Discover, but it may be too late. The company and representative have not called us back to provide proof that my parents did purchase this policy. We want proof that the policy was purchased by my parents to prove the charges made to their card.

My elderly parents did call WAH and charge a policy on Discover

My Dad is 82, nearly 83 and is in failing health. The previous report that we had filed with Ripoff Report about Warranty Activation Headquarters needs updating: My Dad did call and used his Discover card to order the "policy" into effect. Warranty Activation Headquarters have played us a tape of my Dad's actually ordering the policy, and giving our car's VIN number. In the Ripoff Report I filed initially, I stated that my Dad did not place the charges on his discover card. (he could not remember making the charges). But in fact W.A.H. has proven to us that my Dad had made the charges. They did this by playing back a tape recording they made of the transaction with my Dad. I heard this and believe them (WAH) This started when my Dad received a solicitation postcard from the company. AND W.A.H. has refunded the money to their Discover Card for all "premiums" they charged to our Discover Card.

Something, some where is not right. How would Discover Card get a vin#? I have a dad with demensia and I know he had over 16 credit cards and a bank account that was over drawn because he was writing checks to places he was not writing down himself! I know it is easy to want to blame Discover, but please check into this. Also, unless you have power of attorney, Discover is not ALLOWED to speak with anyone other than your parents. Legally they should not be talking to you at all! So, you may be at a dead end street here.

Why don't they remember?

Everyone knows the vin # is on the car or on any registration for the vehicle. As far as a credit card #, do your parents have a credit card. They must if the company has the card #. It is not necessary for someone to have a vin# memorized. I don't have mine memorized but, I could give it to someone if I looked at my insurance card. It is impossible for any company to get lucky enough to get the right vin# and credit card # from someone in a fraudulent manner. Do your parents have alzheimer's or dimentia? I'm sure they don't remember everything you go over with them. Or maybe they are saying they don't remember because you are overbearing and they fear you may get upset with them.
