My Husband Deposit a little over $4,000 dollars, which took 2 business days to clear, But the next day showed me Online there was a $100 available from that deposit, and next day its gone. (The Day it cleared..). The Check was deposited on a friday the 9th of jan. 2009 and didn't clear till tuesday the 13th of jan, 2009, online banking Showed Me funds were available and the things that got taking out was subtracted from the $4,000. now this was wednesday when funds were out and nothing showing negitive yesterday.

I check online and I see 6 over draft fees, now I am mad.. I called Them and I believe I spoke with someone by the name of Jan she told me, That over the week end we used our cards but as credit not debit even thou it is a debit card it also can be used as credit also, To make a long story short we fought and they would not budge and charged me $210 in fees, I told her look only 1
person was working in the house hold and what they show on ois alot differant then what is actually takeing place and YES they do put the larger amount taken out first even if it wasn' t the first.

I went and had them give me a print out and told them I was reported them they did not even care I am going to close my account with them as for my husband he has to keep it open as for my moms SSI checks get direct deposit.

Webster Bank Is The Worst Bank I Ever Seen, Please Don't Give Them People a hand out for help since all they do is Rip Off There Customers, Someone Really needs to Investigate them or Audit Them...

Webster's Overdraft Scam

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, December 13, 2009

I am here to echo the original author of this report's complaint against Webster's overdraft and check depositing policies.

I did the best possible thing you can do as a consumer - I closed the account.

I had opened the Webster account on behalf of my handicapped, senior citizen mother, so that she may deposit her alimony check and eventually here retirement checks. Our experience is quite similar to that which is described above. But here's the kicker . . . we were forced to wait 24-48 hours for fund availability - even though the check that I was depositing was being drawn on my Father's own Webster account!

That's right - it takes up to 48 hours for Webster to confirm fund availability from a check written by another Webster customer!

When I questioned them about this, and why we were getting socked with an absurd amount of overdraft fee's, the operations person I was speaking to told me that it doesn't matter if the check came from another Webster account - it can still take up to 48 hours for it to clear. Absurd, ya think?

Meanwhile I personally have a local community bank, that no matter which bank a check is drawn from - if I make the deposit in person during normal banking hours - 100% of all funds from that check are IMMEDIATELY available.

If you are still PO'ed about this kind of thing from Webster - it really does pay to call or write the Attorney General's office. If they get enough calls and complaints (and they have gotten them about Webster) the AG will begin investigating and take action.

Of course, Overdraft fee's are largely controlled by Federal Banking laws - and we all know that Senator Chris Fraud has his hands in the pot. OH wait - Webster is BASED in Connecticut? Sen Fraud's home state?! Go figure.

Let Me Clear Something Up Also

AUTHOR: Meow1941 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 28, 2009

Ok So you say don't use credit card or debit, I relize it is not a credit card BUT it is Treated as A Part Type Credit Reguardless of Funds, You can go out to dinner or shop and pay in a day or 2 or Longer, This check was deposited in the afternoon not real late and also they are open on Saturday which they claim would not be a Bussiness day Well as far as I am concerned If you are open for bussiness.. IT is a Bussiness Day They can call it what they like, They Are Still A Rip Off !!! I will in time close that account as soon as I get my stuff in order and You will see I won't be the only 1 to make these actualizations, and The Reason I don't Like Checks Is It takes Way to long to come out and I do have a BUSY LIFE, I don't always Remember Every move i make Sorry. And Let me just say 1 more thing My sister who works at a bank Not Webster That God Told me They Do Put People Who Are More @ Risk for there spending So They get charged fees They know who those people are and That Is Totally WRONG. I Hope They NEVER get a hand Out From The Goverment, They DON't Deserve IT.....

Let me clear something up for you

AUTHOR: Ken - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 15, 2009

When you use a debit card, there are two different ways that the transaction can get back to your back: through a point-of-sale switch, (commonly called debit) and through an ATM switch (commonly called credit). One system requires you to enter a PIN, the other requires a signature. Using one system over the other does NOT make it a credit card transaction, it just uses a different route back to your account.

If you swiped your card and did not have available funds in your account, it doesn't matter whether you selected credit or debit, you still overdrew the account. Just a side note, if you'd written a check instead of using the card, you would likely have been fine.

Depending on when your husband deposited the check, the branch may have already cut over it's business day. (Usually starting around 2, but it varies) If they had already cut over, then in effect, the deposit was made on Monday, and would show in the account on Tuesday, as you describe. Check to see what the date is on your receipt. If it is Monday's date, then that is the case.

If you are running close to the vest on your balance, you probably never want to use the debit card. It is not your friend. Stick to writing checks and using cash. You'll save yourself a lot of grief and money.
