WidgetsNThings Will not refund payment for defective device. Saint Peters Missouri

I purchased an iPhone breathalyzer attachment through Living Social from WidgetsNThings. It took a month to arrive. It was defective. I tried to return it to Living Social (which is kind of like Groupon), they said it was beyond the return window (convenient as it took so long for the item to ship). The instructed me to go to the retailer, WidgetsNThings to request refund. The WidgetsNThings rep said they have a no return policy for "personal items." He offerred to send me a replacement of the same piece of junk I recieved initially. Having already learned that the item was poor quality, I rejected this offer. There was no budging from "ploicy" of not refunding purchase costs of defective items, only store credit or replacements. 

I cannot abide this kind of shady usiness pracice. I am now seeking resolution through my credit card company.
