We bought a mare from Hilaire Williams "wits-end ranch" that was going to be our family horse and was sold as a sweet, gentle anyone-can-ride trail horse. We bought her over the internet and took the words of a horse trading con artist. This horse only place in life should be with the rodeo by the way it acts. This woman just don't care who she tries to get killed. Trail horse...what a joke!!!

Only now I hearing about others coned by her.BEWARE!!!!!

Many victims have gone out to ride or see these horse with the same results.

Chris- I totally agree with you but these horses are being drugged so any bad, vicious behavior is being masked. I recently spoke with a women who had bought "Comanche" a bombproof, beginner safe, proven trailmaster" from Mike and Kathryn Smith.

This women, her husband, trainer and small children went out to test ride this particular horse. She said he rode fine so they bought him. After getting him home he became sick with stomach problems (ulcers) and she spent a fortune to get him well.

Approximately three weeks later the horse became aggressive and hard to handle, ran away with her young daughter and tried to buck off her husband. Bombproof? Not likely...drugs being fed thru the feed would certainly cause ulcers.
She ended up selling the horse on agdirect.com for a fraction of what she paid. These stories are all the same from the vicitms of this scam.

This John Baker from Gladys, Virginia who posted here also posted a slanderous text ad on Dreamhorse on 3/30 on a stallion I own. They traced the IP address to a location in Charlotte, NC..not far from Cherryville and the Smiths....coincidence or more lies from Mike and Kathryn? You decide.

Try BEFORE you buy

AUTHOR: Chris - (Canada)

POSTED: Monday, April 03, 2006

I'm sorry to hear of your horse problems, but it seems to me that you did not do your research.

1- Before buying a horse, take it on trial. A reputable owner will not mind giving you a horse on trial for at least a week. Horses aren't cars, they have personalities and quirks that simply can't be determined in one day. The horse may be delightful under saddle, but a holy terror to handle. The horse could even be a perfect angel - but totally not suitable for your style/needs.

2-Get a trusted coach involved, and then get a second opinion. (Some coaches get kickbacks)

3-If you're paying any kind of money - get the horse vetted too (to avoid navicular).

4- Thoroughbreds have tattoos on the inside of their lips. Research breeds for their distinctive tatoos/brands. Disreputable dealers sometimes swap the papers to a paperless 'mutt'.

5- Lastly -the BEST advice I ever got was from my vet - get a horse with a nice face. 'Cause if anything ever happens to him (ie injury) you're gonna be feeding that face for a loooooong time.

Please view the investigative news report done on these scam artists

AUTHOR: Hilaire - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 31, 2006

Copy and paste the link to the WCNC news investigative report done last Sept. on Mike and Kathryn Smith. There is a good video on this couple and some of us that have been going after them.

Shortcut to:

Mike and Kathryn are doing their best to dis-credit some of us by spreading lies and telling false stories. Kathryn is toting herself as a TWH judge-she's NOT. She has photos on her website of a women showing saddlebreds and TWH's- it's not her but she sure is trying to get you to believe it is!

Latest batch of "new" horses listed for sale came from an out-of-state auction while they were supposedly on a weeks vacation. Pedro (used to be Dreamcatcher)was returned by the buyer for aggressively charging her and not having the training he supposedly had & renamed by the Smiths to be re-sold to the next victim. And I could swear the palomino mare for sale is a geld and isn't anything like the photo.

If you do buy a horse from these people-please get blood drawn to test for drugs as we have evidence of this happening..DON'T LET THEM TALK YOU OUT OF IT. These people are excellent cons and will convince you the sky is really falling. They prey on your trust and weakness, don't become the next scam statistic.

False Ripoffreport filed by Con-artists Mike and Kathryn Smith of Cherryville/Vale, NC

AUTHOR: Janice - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 30, 2006

The report filed by "John" of Gladys, VA, is a false ripoff report filed in retaliation by Mike and Kathryn Smith of Cherryville/Vale NC. The Smiths are well known con-artists that have been scamming horse buyers on the internet since at least 2002. They buy green or old auction horses for a few hundred dollars and sell them for thousands of dollars to unsuspecting beginners or to people looking for children's horses. The Smiths use various names, farm names, and town names to sell their horses. In this false ripoff report they are falsely accusing Hilaire Williams of what they themselves have been doing for years. Actually, Hilaire Williams has been scammed by the Smiths. Hilaire, myself and many others have been trying to warn others about these con-artists. People have been hurt by these horses, law suits have been filed, lawsuits have been won, and a TV expose has been done on the Smiths(WCNC TV in Charlotte,NC).

Mike and Kathryn Smith filing false reports once again..get a real job!!

AUTHOR: Hilaire - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 29, 2006

What mare would that be exactly? That phrase came right off my website "anyone can ride horse" so I guess that would be the red dun mare that I sold to a women in town here. That mare is still on my property waiting to foal and being she's the only mare I've had for sale....this report would be another phoney report straight from Kathryn and Mike Smith.

I've recently been in contact with two different families that bought or were in the process of buying auction horses from these cons. One person did manage to get her deposit back, the other had to return the vicious horse herself because the Smiths refused to take it back. She's still trying to get her money back! Some of the details of what was told to me verify all our suspitions about the horses being drugged for sale.

Seems Kathryn and Mike went on a weeks vacation to buy more auction horses so watch their website for the new "Trailmasters" appearing soon. This person and her friend were told lie after lie. Since Kathryn has been sued for bankruptcy fraud by her trustee, Mike is now in charge.

Wait til the IRS gets ahold of this couple...they won't be able to lie their way out of that!! Mike/Kathryn, your attacks on me won't get rid of me..I'll see that you both get jail time before I'm done..COUNT ON IT!!! Now I can add slander/libel for the false reports on my business...thank you, you're only making my job easier. Your "new friends" are sure disappearing off your website at a fast pace..are they not as satisfied as you hoped?
