A mistake was made and the bank credited your account.
Now, when most people get money in their account they don't know where it came from would make an inquiry. What it appears you did was figure "free money" and spent it. The problem is that it wasn't your money and when the bank fixed the mistake they correctly deducted the amount that was put in by mistake. Now, because you spent the money you are now negative.
Now you are saying..well I think I should get to save the money if it was put in by mistake. Well let's look at it this way. Say you put the wrong account number down and a deposit went into another account. Would you want the bank to say "too bad...so sad you just gave another person your money". No you would want them to fix the mistake and apply the deposit where it belongs..which is exactly what happened.
If you want to look at a positive in this. At least you weren't arrested for theft because that is technically what it is when you were spending money that wasn't yours.
