We rode out our contract with ADT/APX/APEX.  We took security service with another supplier at much less cost

Began having problems with new service.  Had tech from new service come to our home.  He found that ADT/APX/APEX had locked our radio box so system will not work.  We had to pay new provider for service call ($80.00) and now will have to buy new box ($180.00) in order to maintain new service. 

All this apparently for spite (on part of ADT/APX/APEX) because we found new service at HALF the price being charged by ADT/APX/APEX)  If you don't want to get RIPPED OFF, DON'T use ADT/APX/APEX!!!!

did you have service from multiple companies?

You list ADT/APX/APEX.  ADT is a company TOTALLY separate from APX (now Vivint) and I don't even know who APEX is.

In your contract with whichever company you disconnected, who does it say owns the equipment?

This "new company" you mention would have been able to provide the service for a lesser price as they did not have the intial expense of providing and installing all the original equipment.  The 'box" is just part of it.

The companies that install this equipment recoup their investment (and profit) from your monthly "monitoring fees."

I had ADT and was satisfied with their service, but switched to APX/VIVINT when my contract was up due to great, updated equipment.

Hope you're happy with your new service, but keep in mind, you DID originally sign a contract with whatever company you had, agreeing to their terms.
