File complaint with the following, your attorney general. FTC, BBB, agency that deals with banks. Also file lawsuit in small claims, better if you can get a lawyer and sue them for the amount of damage it caused you. Such as higher interest rates on loans, denied jobs, and other lost opportunities. Maybe try ripoffrevenge.com

Removal Of Items From Credit Report

AUTHOR: P - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 29, 2003

Just because you paid off a debt does not mean that the item will be removed from your credit report. Negative items suck as late payments, charge-offs, etc., will stay on your report for 7 years from the date of last activity. A bankruptcy can remain up to 10 years from the date of filing depending on the type.

If you were deliquent on your Best Buy account, but eventually paid it off in 1998, then that deliquency will remain until some time in 2005. If the debt is paid in full, then your report should at least show you owing a $0 balance. If it doesn't, I would write the CRA (Credit Reporting Agency) and dispute how the item is being reported. Best Buy will be required to respond in 30 days. If they do not, then the item will have to be removed. You are also entitled to write the original creditor to dispute the item. They are required to notify the CRA of your dispute and have it put on your report. Anything you do in writing should be sent via return-receipt to prove that your requests was sent.

Good Luck!
