Over 100 people contracted samonella poisoning from Chilis Bar and Grill ( owned by Brinker Intl ) in the end of June 2003 in the town of Vernon Hills, Il. They stayed open and served food when they had no hot water for 3 days and no water at all for 1 day. The dish sanitizing machine had also been broken for awhile.

Beverly, you've got to be kidding me. Recycled food? You're out of your mind. Don't make stupid assumptions saying that they recycled your food. No Chili's would do such a thing. And I highly doubt the server that gave you your fries told you there was no charge, knowing that what was in the box was crappy. That just doesn't make sense.
I call B.S. on your statement, Beverly.

To the original poster, I hadn't even heard of this happening. Don't assume ALL Chili's is like that. Some of us are franchised (like my store), and we follow safety/sanitary procedures to a T.

Bad Management Not a Bad Company

I know the managers that were at the Vernon Hills location. They made bad decisions. If the company was aware, they would have immediatly closed down the restaurant. That is without a doubt standard policy.

Brinker has a third party company who are 100 times harder on you then the health department visit the restaurants every 30 days. If they don't pass, there are major reprocussions. They will close down a location until issues are fixed.

The company paid for the mistake these managers made. The managers knew better. Blame them, not the company.

Your being ignorant when you make a bold statement about a company recycling food. If you have ever worked in a resteraunt before, you would know that from time to time food gets mixed together. Sorry that it happened to you, but resteraunts like chili's are fast paced and sell thousands of dollars of food every hour. Do you call the health department every time you find a hair in your food? You probably should keep them on speed dial. Lastly, the most telling way of knowing you had recycled french fries would be how soggy the french fries would be by the time you got them, yet I don't see anything about that. Don't make ignorant statements about a huge company because of one incident at one resteraunt that just sounds like a bad visit, not a health scare.

I ordered french fries for lunch today. The cashier handed them to me and I was about to pay him and he said no charge. This was a take out lunch.

When I got back to work and opened the box, there was a couple pieces of lettuce and I started to sort thru the box, there was some ketchup and a strand of reddish blond hair.

I am reporting this to the health dept.

The prologue to this story is that the location has permanently closed and the property is up for sale. The Health Department got involvde after a few ER patients all reported eating at Chili's. The estimated number of affected patrons is close to 200, there are possibly quite a few more who exhibited less serious symptoms and never sought medical attention. Brinker is now facing massive lawsuits as a resultof this. The ultimate settlement will likely run in the hundred thousands, if not millions.
