If you are so honest?

Calvin,

If you are so honest, where is the balance of the retainer that you promise to return months ago?

#2 Consumer Comment

A Lawyer can do anything to win a case, sometimes he will even tell the truth.

You should do some research before hiring the right attorney. One of my business partners who hired Mr. Calvin Yap back in Feb to represent him regarding renters who get stuck in foreclosure property. He lost the case and had paid too much money for his lawyer.  Remember some lawyers only have ratings from their peers not from clients.

Oswald & Yap LLP rebuttal

AUTHOR: Oswald & Yap LLP - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 29, 2010

We have been in business for almost 30 years and are rated AV-5.0 by Martindale Hubbell Law Directory, which is the highest rating given and lists us with the preeminant attorneys of the United States.  I am also personally rated AV-5.0 and have never had a complaint filed against me in any forum, until now.  The amount at issue is $600.  The bottom line is that the complaining consumer was referrred to us by his insurance company.  California Bar rules require a written retainer agreement before commencing work, and our retainer agreement requires a deposit.  The deposit was $800 in this case.  After reviewing the consumer's documents, responding to his questions and his fiancee's questions, analysing his situation, and providing advice which saved the consumer over $2,500, we told him that there was nothing more we could do, and refunded the balance of his deposit, approximately $200, despite spending well over 3 hours on this matter.  He repeatedly insisted that we continue to represent him, and when we refused, he became verbally abusive and demanded a refund of the $600, as well.  We then received a call from his insurance company, who, after reviewing the matter, advised us not to return any monies.  If the party had told us of financial hardship or politely asked for assistance, we would have helped.  But the attitude and abusive language he hurled at us made this a matter of principle.

Calvin Yap
