Just a word of warning to everyone..... DO NOT GO TO ANY COST CUTTERS HAIR SALONS in the Madison or Northern Illinois area. Not only are they overpriced, their stylists and salons are filthy. I know two people who contracted lice from their salons. When we called the corporate office they told us that there was no way that lice came from the salons. We asked for our money back and were told NO.

Just in products alone to take care of the lice it cost over $30. The moral here.....stay away from Cost Cutters, they don't care about their customers.

Ultimately the salon manager is responsible for the sanitation of a salon regardless of who owns it. Who hires the managers you ask......why it is the district managers. I will tell you though that I worked for CC and had 5 different salon managers in 4 years. The next was always worse than the last and none of them cared much about anything other than getting a paycheck. The problem is is that most of the managers were greedy and wanted as much floor time as a stylist and didn't do much in the way of managing.

If you can help it at all find a salon that is owner/stylist run. The individually owned salons will be more likely to want your repeated business, after all it is YOU the customer that is their bread and butter.

Tip: Always get a receipt. If you ever have to make a formal complaint to the State Board you'll have proof of the date, time, stylist, service preformed and the manager on duty. It would also benefit you to seek a physicians advice as soon as possible if you believe that you have been exposed to any infectious disease. Cosmetologists are not permitted (PA) to render service to any infected person.

i work at cost cutters in racine wisconsin we are owned by C.C. of wisconsin along with about 6 other cost cutters in the area and 3 supercuts. our owner dave barnes is a wonderful boss to us and is fantastic at public relations. the customer is always first in our chain of cost cutters whether we as employees like it or not. it makes me sad to see any cost cutters operating like this, our pricing is beyond fair, our salons are cleaned and regularly inspected, and not only have we not given lice to anyone, if somehow it did happen, we would certainly compensate the customer for any troubles.

first of all when a case of lice comes into our salon state regulation tells us along with common sense what to do. we cannot work on anyone with lice. we must IMMEDIATELY take everything that has touched this person, cape, comb, etc, and place it in a tightly closed bag for a minimum of 1 week to kill all eggs then it can be thrown away or disinfected and cleaned. mistakes occur, but we are in the business of fixing others mistakes, not causing our own. if by some chance of fate you do find a problem with your racine/kenosha area cost cutters, trust me you WILL be taken care of. we are not above giving away months worth of free haircuts after a bad one, you have 30 days to return any product and try another, if a color or perm turns out undesirably, we fix it no charge and give you any products needed from any resulting damage from double processing.

i just want to make it known that not all cost cutters are run by some corperate office. our cost cutters is run from a small house style business with about 3-4 employees working at our main office. everyone is known on a first name basis and no complaint goes unread. please dont take this complaint against madison cost cutters to mean we are all the same. thanks.
