We ordered 5 cubic yards of "gravel" (crushed rock) and paid for 5 cubic yards.

That is the minimum the company claims it delivers.

We received an amount that looked considerably less.

To measure it, we shoveled the entire load into a Waste Management Bagster(tm). 

It was 5 inches short of filling the Bagster.

A Bagster holds 3 cubic yards. So we received less than 3.

We contacted the business owner, who insisted he gave us the full amount. "I measured it myself" and "We've always measured it this way" were his adamant rebuttals.

We confronted him with photographic evidence of his load NOT filling a 3 cubic yard bagster.  He became abusive, called us liars, and ordered us off his property.

I wonder if he puts his finger on the scales for all his customers or if this is a one-off.

I'll keep this report up-to-date when I file civil suit.  It's only a matter of $80, but it was so easy for him to correct.  I want to make sure he's not doing this to others.  I've filed with the department of agriculture in NC as well, as they have the jurisdiction over short measure companies like this.
