HC Processing seems to enjoy the game of charging late fees when a customer's account is down to a small balance. On three occassions now, I have been charged a $25.00 late fee becuase HC Processing says they did not receive payment until well after the due date. In two separate phone calls to Brian and Lupita of HC Processing regarding this matter, not only did both of them try to insult my intelligence by telling me my bank was sending the payments late, they also tried to blame the US Postal Service for late delivery; all the while claiming the late charge was a valid charge to my account under the terms of the agreement.
In the 18 months which I have maintained the account, not one previous payment was ever late to HC Processing. Each of these payments was scheduled well in advance of the due date through the web-bill-pay service offered by my bank. I have sent 3 letters to the Consumer Complaints/Billing Errors address in Springdale, Arkansas, along with a copy of the payment processing information provided by my bank, but have received no reply regarding my dispute.
I have contacted the Attorney General's Office in Arkansas regarding this matter and have been referred to an attorney in the consumer affairs. division.

These companies LOVE holding your payment in their mail room until (you guessed it) after your due date. Providian was fined millions for doing this.
Solution: pay on their website one week in advance.
If you don't like to use this system or if they don't offer it, mail all your payments via Registered Mail with Return Receipt. this will cost you $3 each time but it will make it impossible for them to scam you with phony late charges. In this case if they did try you could file charges with your state postmaster general for fraud charges.
