I received an email this morning stating that I had an interview on Hangout with Jason Nolet who is the Human Resources Manager for IDT Telecom Corporation. He gave me no contact info except his email which was not an email for the company listed. He wanted an interview through Hangouts messenger. I was excited at first and blinded that it could be a scam. I had my cousin, who works for the government, to check it out. He said it's an actual company name, but not a real person that works at this business.

It is indeed common for scammers to use a legit company name when trying to conduct a scam.  A dead give away it is a scam is when the person uses a free, throway email address like yahoo or gmail. Also, if they are wanting to conduct an interview through yahoo messenger or Hangouts, you can be 100% confident someone is going to try to scam you.
