This supposed to be friend of mine rebuilt the motor in my 88 cadillac. It took him 2 months to do it,only working between beers.I first got it back with a horrible exhaust leak, and as I voiced my concerns he said he would get to it but at a later date. I then noticed a noise coming from the bottom end [main bearings] with not even 300 miles on it and 2500.00 tied up in it,I decided to drop it off because of the noise. He then has one of his drinking buddies call me and tell me for an additional 650 he would put a crank kit in it.Now this is after he's had the car for 3 weeks. He puts a thicker oil in it,but to no avail its still knocking

Like I said money was not the issue. When you rebuild a motor you do what it takes to get it right. As far as being asked to leave, it was more him calling me asking me to bring beer. He could do more work if he wasn't waiting on 5:00 [beerthirty]. At least know what you are talking about, I gave this person 900 to start the job and it still took him 3 weeks to get started. We can go on and on but fact of the matter is he is a sub-standard mechanic.

should have stopped work

once the customer was notified that the crankshaft needed to be replaced and the customer was known to not have
enough money all work should have stopped until money became available to do a satisfactory rebuild.
any good rebuilder knows that a bad crankshaft wont last very long. installing a motor with a bad crank is just asking for trouble,
your sure to get the customer back in your face.
in order to solve this mess just remove the motor from the car and wait until the customer comes up with the necessary money to fix it before you reinstall it.
after all it is his motor. i suggest you also fix the leaks, the rear mains on those motors usually have rope type seals which are hard to install correctly.
i also wonder why the crank is "bad" it sounds like it was never turned down to begin with. yoou cant just slap new bearings on it and hope it holds.

I was there when the action took place, the person complaining did have to make payments in increment, he was told that he needs the crankshaft replaced with the engine but refused and stated that it would be too expensive. He was asked a couple of times to leave the premises because of his being drunk and singing and bringing beer and trying to hand it out whoever was present. While it took so long he made $200.00 dollars installment. This is a business that started about eight months ago and has many happy return customers. This business has a one year warranty on the repair but in this case even the Columbus Better Businees Bureu closed the case because everything was legal and everything was done to resolve the case. The drinking budy he mentioned was his friend. A rebuttal was already filed by the owner with the case number of the Better business Burea. I wish you would also put the rebuttal on your website. Even though I think you all serve a purpose but also need to be willing to set the record straight.

Money was not the issue,it was his sub standard work.He jacked the price up several times. He took a short cut by not putting a crank kit in it and now I am stuck with it.The BBB may have released the report as resolved but only because I would never let this man turn a wrench on my car, ever.

the customer on which is making the complaint was a friend of mine till this, first the reason it took 2 months is the customer didnt have money for parts, when we got the crankshaft out i told the customer it needed to be replaced,he declined saying he didnt have the money for it. On 07/13/2011 he filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, cas #8664396 and with a reply from me they closed the case with this reply "BBB found business made a good faith effort to resolve complaint"

Update: I got my car back on the 12th of July 2011 after it sat over at the shop for another three weeks as stated in last report. Now the timing chain cover is leaking oil,as is the rear main seal, throttle linkage is hanging up on a homemade egr cover.I really believe there was nothing wrong with the carb that was on it.He insisted I needed a new carb. The car did not knock, smoke when I took it in the shop. The reason was a loss of power.I urge anyone and everyone to first check out any repair shop with the BBB before getting shafted like I did.You would think a man that would sign his name on the valve cover would take pride in work.
