This is a mother and son team that claim they are launching a social site that needs funding for start up. When looking up the company they seem legit, but don't deliver on the promises they make once they have your money. Our company was promised a front page spot on their websiteand discounted services for the money and assistance given to them, but 8 months later.......nothing (no advertising and no product that they had been supposedly producing). The 'owners' are not responding to my emails or calls. There is no telling how many other people they have scammed, but you do not have to be next.

AUTHOR: Nerdular - ()

POSTED: Thursday, September 12, 2013

I am one of the cofounders of Nerdular, a startup still in the process of starting up.  We're creating an ecommerce platform that will be like an eBay for nerds but with an emphasis on community.  To find us on this website is quite a shock, and we're puzzled as to why someone would do this.  We've only ever taken money once, and it was from 3 local comics book shops ($40) as part of market validation for Startup Weekend Jacksonville, which took place in Jan 2013.  The purpose of the weekend was to work on a startup idea, test that idea, and create an action plan.

A couple of team members approached 4 local comic book shops in total that weekend, and got monetary "buy-in" from 3. The $40 from each shop was by no means an "investment," but a pre-payment for an online store within a platform that we're still in the process of building (and that should be launching late 2013).  It takes time to go from idea to building a team to building a product, especially one this complex.

What we did during that weekend by pre-selling a future product was prove that this is something people would actually pay for.  We never intended to keep the money, and the week following Startup Weekend, we went to each of the 3 shops, gave them their money back, told them what the money symbolized, thanked them each for their vote of confidence, and told them that because of it, when our platforms launches, we'll make special provisions for their shops in particular for being early supporters.  I can provide the names of the people and the shops we worked with.

It saddens me, but I think I know who went out of their way to post a negative comment, and she has a history of flaming people online using aliases. We're a local bootstrapped startup trying to build something awesome in the face of the numerous entrepreneurial hurdles that keep many would-be founders from even trying, and it's so unfortunate that anyone can trash a reputation without having to provide any proof.  If by some chance, this could be a misunderstanding of sorts, please email me at girlie@nerdular.com.
