Orchard sent an unrequested credit card and bill for $15 a few weeks ago. After great hassle, I finally got thru to them by phone and email that I did not order the card and had no intention of paying their $15.

I thought all was clear until I got a new bill -- now for $69 -- claiming past dues, etc., etc. for a credit card which has never been used.

This is as sleazy as it gets. These guys need to be stopped pronto.

I've tried to find the CEO on the 'net with no luck thus far.

Thank you, Karen, and thank you "Anonymous" employee! From Paula, one of many Ripped-Off consumers from Orchard!

Make that would-have-been Ripped-Off Consumer. I called Orchard AGAIN yesterday and the first live person I reached yes, "Yes. I see you called last month to cancel this card, and instead, they issued a new number."

She then transferred me to their security department to try to figure out what had happened. The man in security assured me this sorry saga is over, but I'm not counting on it.

Special thanks to the Anonymous Employee for the actual administrative offices. I'm writing a letter today.

And, Karen, are you filing a Class Action or what? I'm game!

Anonymous,
Thank you so much for the info.
Seeing that someone that works for them also knows the real story of how they are ripping people off is scary.
I am, for one, going after them...it's time they stand up and try to weazle their way out of a challenge.
I know everyone needs a job and a paycheck and I give you credit for putting up with their antics and working there.

I work for HSBC - Orchard Bank

I have been working for this company for years, and I will tell you it is so sad what they are doing. You are not the only one. Their are thousands just like you. They have moved part of the company to India and to the Philipines. And just like they are screwing customers they are also doing it with the employees by firing them for no reason instead of having layoffs so they won't have to pay anything. If I was you I'd contact the VIP office in Salinas, CA the address is: 1441 Schillings Place Salinas, CA 93901. They hate when info is leaked by I think it's about time that some stands up for the rest. Good luck. And also just as an FYI. Many people get solicted when purchasing from Best Buy. Best Buy has a partnership with HSBC and they trick you by agreeing to the credit card at the time you sign for your receipt. I have seen it many times. So you don't have to give out your ssn.

Very confusing report, how did they get your personal info?

The problem with credit card companies is this: The laws have been changed to protect the credit card companies. I was late with my small payment, they charged me 4 times the amount I owed. They can charge you 99% and get away with it. They are not governed my any banking laws. Credit card companies operate illegal within the United States of America and can do it legally. Anyone who has a credit card, tear it up. Never ever Never apply for one. Someone applied for one in your name, or you did a long time ago. Think back. Now they have you. Pay the money, get out while you can, or you'll owe thousands for nothing. rich in the springs

Sorry. You're mistaken

I never applied for a card with Orchard. Period.

Until their bill arrived, I had never even heard of them! I suspect they purchased this information from another credit card application for which I applied to transfer a balance for a lower-interest account.

I spent an inordinate amount of time trouble-shooting this with them last month and when I finally reached a "live" person, I was told not to worry about the billing if I didn't want the card. Then they followed that with another billing, adding "late" fees and such for a card never ordered, never wanted, never used!

Do your homework. This happens. Read the other reports about Orchard and you'll see a not-so-pretty picture about this company. When I pulled up Orchard on Ripoff last night, there were 159 complaints!

My advice: Stay far, far away from anything Orchard! After researching on the 'net, I see they are affiliated with HSBC. Suits have been filed and I suspect a Class Action Suit may well be underway.

But thanks for the advice: I will definitely NOT be paying this bill. I am seeking others with the same problem so that we'll have ample amunition should we need to go forward with a Class Action.

It irks me to no end that large companies attempt to get away with this kind of nonsense. I do bookkeeping for a moderate-level corporation, so I DO pay attention to what I'm doing. I know Exactly what cards I apply for and why.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

Paula, I think you should give us the rest of the story here!

Paula,

Banks DO NOT send out new credit cards to new customers unsolicited. It simply does not happen. In order to get a credit card you MUST sign an application and provide your personal information like SS#, DOB, Employer or Income, etc.

Here's what I think. You applied for the card, and then changed your mind for whatever reason. Now you want to get out of the obligation you agreed to and avoid the annual fee, etc..

Think about this. If you did not apply for this card, HOW did they get all of the personal information to process the application and send out the card?

And, if you truly did not apply for the card, they do not have a leg to stand on. Just ignore the bill and file a fraud alert with each credit bureau and with the FTC. File criminal fraud charges on them.

Very simple.
