Well, where to begin. I started getting calls at my mother's home from a Ms. Anderson from this company. I do not live with my parents and havent for over 14 years. I returned this lady's call just to be informed that I owe Chase Manhattan bank $2100.00. Im confused at this point. About 4 years ago I had a Chase Credit Card. The account was past due in 2003 for $715.58.
On February 2, 2003 I sent the $715.58 to Chase via Western Union. The account was then closed and I sent the actual credit card back to Chase cut up into about 10 pieces.
Ok, so this lady tries to say that I owe $2100 from the original balance plus interest that has accrrued over the last 4 years. I explain to her that I paid it off via Western Union and have a letter sent from Western Union showing the date, amount, account number (credit card number), Code City & State & the 10 digit MTCN number from the transaction. I advised her that I would send a copy of this letter to them for proof. I also advised her that I want validation from Chase about this debt.
She blatenly disregards everything I say and says she has nothing to send to me. I told her that if they had the account in their office then they have to have SOMETHING to send me. She refuses.
She then says she can do a settlement with me for $600. $600 down from $2100??? Sure. Then she says she needs a bank account number or a credit card number. I advised her I would give out NEITHER and then she asks if my spouse has a bank account or credit card. IM NOT MARRIED NOR HAVE I EVER BEEN!!
Before ending the conversation I again advised her I want written validation of the debt before I would even consider sending a dime. She then stated that she will pursue this in court & good luck to me. I informed her "good luck to her as well" and she hung up.
I know I do not owe anything else to Chase. Strange Ive never heard a word about this until 4 years later and then all of a sudden I owe $2100.

Good Job...

Sounds like you have everything under control here...good job! You're part of the 2% of the population that understands that you have rights and that a collection agency cannot take your firstborn child or have the county sheriff come an arrest you within three hours for ancient debt...
I'd send a "cease communications" letter via registered mail with return receipt.

Keep any communication with them in WRITING...nothing good can come of talking with them on the phone.
