Poetry.com ripoff Told me I was a semi-finalist then nominated as a 2006 Poetry Ambassador Owings Mills Maryland
*Consumer Comment: They tell everyone they're a semi-finalist, or other such title to get them to buy books and other merchandise.
*Consumer Comment: I DISAGREE WITH THISI
On February 28th, 2006 I received a letter from poetry.com, and I was in formed that I also was an "semi-fianlist"in their Open Poetry Contest. They wanted me to let them publish my poem and then buy the book to read my "Own" poem in.
To me that just didn't seem right, so I wrote them a letter and told them that, the plan they introduced to me was a plan that I consider to be one of a person going out the world " A**-Backward". Thanks for letting an Aspiring new writer know whats up with Fake a-- poetry.com. Now is there time to answer to me!!!

Listen to Dorin
Poetry.com, a.k.a. The International Library of Poetry, publishes EVERYTHING and ANYTHING people send them. They tell everyone they're a semi-finalist, or other such title to get them to buy books and other merchandise.
They are a vanity press. REAL poetry contests do not have entrance or reading fees. Real publishers do NOT make authors pay them to publish a poem. It's the other way around. The only books poetry.com sells is to its authors. You can't get the books in bookstores.
Nobody takes vanity presses seriously, and getting published in them is more detrimental to your writing career than anything else.
Check out this website. This is a contest created by a real writer in which people submit horrific poems to poetry.com, and then enter the contest by sending in the poem, as well as poetry.com's response to it. The person with the worst poem wins.
