It was a scam, and Academia Furniture was a victim too.

My name is Shabsi Goldman and I'm the President of Academia Furniture.

Last year someone got a hold of a signed Academia Furniture check and sent out letters under the name "Rainbow Trust" and other names, saying that the recipient has won a large lottery. Usually it said they won tens of thousands of dollars. They sent along a check from a "sponsor" for several thousand dollars, 2-5 thousand on average. The letter instructed the "winner" to wire that amount back to Rainbow trust to cover the taxes and processing.

The bank caught the first check. They realized something was amiss since the check number was not close to what we were using and the check was made out to an individual. The bank put a note on the account that all checks being presented on the account needs to be verified for authenticity. We needed a few days to clear legitimate checks, but before we were able to close the account several checks actually were paid out totaling about $10,000 as some tellers were not careful.

Academia Furniture is an upstanding company with excellent business relationships. I have letters from our bank and from another business attesting to our integrity. I'll be happy to send you copies if you contact me.

Please contact me at info@academiafurniture.com.

Yours,
Shabsi Goldman
