Bought a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe brand new. Was charged $995.00 for security window etching and was not asked if I wanted this, or advised of the charges.

Was charged $1795.00 for an "extended warranty" -- was promised that it covered a large amount of issues over and above the included Hyundai 10/100,000 warranty. So far, everything that has needed repair under the extended warranty, is still not covered.

I found out later that someone bought the same car, and was only charged $900.00 for the same extended warranty package within 2 weeks of my purchase.

The radio had a broken button, so they replaced it. 3 months later, the new radio died altogether, and they said it was not under warranty any longer--the warranty only covered the ORIGINAL radio.

A known problem with this model is the alternator is too small, which kills the battery. I took the car in 4 times to have it serviced for low power (lights dimmed, a/c fan would stop, etc) and they kept changing oxygen sensors, refusing every time to change the battery. On my 4th trip, when the car was finally dead, they replaced the battery. The only response was, "I don't know why the service department didn't find anything wrong before". Mind you, I live 50 miles from the dealer, and they are the closest to me, so this is quite inconvenient.

BUYER BEWARE !

How Can You NOT Know?

AUTHOR: Jim - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, August 15, 2004

Vincent:

This $995 for phoney baloney window etching...how could you NOT KNOW about this charge? Did you read your paperwork BEFORE you signed? Nope!
Now its the fault of the dealer, right?

Understand Vincent, I do not agree with what they did to you. The window etching con-game is very, very common. But YOU have the responsibility to read your own paperwork before you sign.

LESSON ONE: Read all your paperwork first. Don't rely on them to tell you what it says. Read it yourself, otherwise you agree to whatever it says!

Happy with Hyundai

AUTHOR: Jessica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 11, 2004

My family has owned 4 Hyundais: An Excel in the mid-80's, a 1992 Scoupe, a 1997 Elantra Wagon, and we currently own a 2001 Elantra sedan.

We never had a single problem with the Excel or the Scoupe.

In 2000, we moved across the country, and took the Elantra Wagon in for a service check before driving it 3000 miles in a matter of days. We were told that it needed a new catalytic converter (this was at the dealership we originally bought it at) and that it would cost $3000. My mother, of course, balked at that; she was under the (correct!) impression that they were basically trying to screw over the single woman who appeared to be unknowledgeable about the innards of cars.

Of course, the catalytic converter was covered under Hyundai's warranty - but the dealership insisted it was not. So home we went, to look it up in the car's manual - where it clearly spelled out that the catalytic converter was covered. Then, we called Hyundai directly - and were told the same thing, that of course it was covered.

Back to the dealer we went, armed with our new knowledge - and a few days later, we had a brand-new catalytic converter in our car, that probably wasn't needed, but was free nonetheless. Just to stress the point - this was the DEALER'S fault, not in any way Hyundai's.

We've only had the new Elantra for about 1 1/2 years now, but so far the only trouble we've had with it is an air conditioner that needed recharging. Other than that, the car is a dream!

We don't use it as much anymore because our family is growing and we spend more time in our 99 Taurus Wagon, but next year when we go to trade in the Elantra, the first car we are checking out is going to be a Santa Fe!

AUTHOR: Lance - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 06, 2004

I own 2 Hyundai cars a 2002 Elantra bought new, and just recently purchased a 2004 Sonanta, we have had NO problems with the Elantra and the Sonanta is the smoothest car i have even riden in, and the price you pay compared too Honda's with no fancy options that come standard with the Hyundai. And as for the Extended Warranty i never pay for them the are all rip off's in my book GMC did the same thing to me 12 years ago, i never buy Extended Warranties for anything, Fridge, TV etc; because if they break guess what "Sorry Sir that's not covered"

Happy Owner of Tiburon

AUTHOR: Bea - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 28, 2004

I purchased my Hyundai, Tiburon ten months ago, and I could not be happier. It has given me zero problems, looks great, and my Hyundai (RT2 Hyundai, Leominster, MA dealer that I purchased it from has been wonderful to deal with.

I am sorry everyone has had a problem with their purchase, but I cannot add to the complaint department. Just wanted to play the devils advocate. I think there are always a few "lemons" in the bunch.

Maybe I am just a lucky one, but hope the other dealers will improve on their customer service. How will they get repeat customers with the service they are giving?

Hey Vincent Your loving local HYUNDAI dealer will hate read this!

AUTHOR: Stick Rip Off Report Consumer Advocate! - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, July 05, 2004

Hey Vincent think of this. Everybody knows that "Honda" makes a VERY good car that in most cases have very little trouble. Honda only gives a 3, 36 warranty because they know you don't need a big long a*s warranty.

Maybe Hyundai offers a 10,100 because they know you will need it. From what I have seen being a Rip Off Report Advocate I feel that what I am saying is true.

Read the below. I did some research for you on Hyundai's

I just want you to know that I have always owned Toyota's, my first Toyota was a used 84 Corolla which never gave me problems for 114,000 miles, I never once had to go into the dealership for any of my Toyota's except regular maintenance, I never once had a headache.

I finally decided to stop leasing cars and buy one this time around, I chose Hyundai because I had heard they had such great warranties, now I know why, you make crappy cars, that consumers need good warranties.

I have never been so disappointment in my entire life with a vehicle. The headaches and hassles that this car have caused me should never happen to anyone.

This car is only 16 months old with less than 30,000 miles on it, and has already caused me to make more trips to the service station than all cars I have driven in the past 14 years combined!!!

Regretfully (regretful that I bought a Hyundai)

My dissatisfaction with Hyundai
MORE for you Hyundai lovers!

RE: HYUNDAI'S XG350L - in dealer 9 times for pulling problem at higher speeds - unresolved problem

PURCHASED VEHICLE IN MARCH, 2002 THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE DEALERSHIP 9(NINE) TIMES FOR A PULLING PROBLEM WHILE AT HIGHER SPEEDS (65-85) . THE LATEST WORD IS THAT THEY SAY ITS BECAUSE OF THE CROWNS IN THE ROAD..

It's a shame car buyers have to deal with these kind's of troubles. Vincent you said you were charged $1795.00 for an "extended warranty" They only cost car dealers maybe $300 to $500 bucks. Extended warranty's in my eyes are just out there to increase car dealers PROFIT!

Vincent want me to spend some more in-depth time and post some more info for you to read? If so, just post a request for it. Your loving local HYUNDAI dealer will hate it.

Vincent car makers and car dealers hate www.ripoffreport.com because they know that www.ripoffreport.com gets about 7 to 10 MILLION HITS a day and no Reports are ever deleted.

By the way all you that love the BBB for what ever it is that they stand for. Ask yourself ONE QUESTION.

Why is it that the BBB WILL NOT let you read "word for word" other consumers complaints? How can you the consumer be protected from scams and RIP OFF's if you are not being informed?

It sure seems to me that the BBB only gets money from those they are to be watching, what's up with that?
