If you're an aspiring actor then you may begin to realize how many people are out there trying to cash in on your ambition.

Do not 'Pay to Play' unless you're paying for an audition noticeboard such as Backstage.com (which is like 10 bucks a month!), and stay away from people like these who only want to separate you from your money.

They'll ask you for about 200 bucks a quarter to 'become a member' so you can land an agent... but it's merely a business that wants as many members as possible so as to maximize profit.

The Casting Directors Are Paid to Attend

AUTHOR: Lala - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, January 23, 2012

Of course the Casting Directors are complimentary of the program!! They get paid to attend and many supplement their incomes with that rubbish. Preying on peoples hopes is what it is, and fleecing them in the process.  SP and the CD's leave wealthier for it, while all the poor actors and wannabes walk away with even less than they had to begin with.

The Actor's Project NYC Assisting Actors

AUTHOR: The Actor''s Project NYC - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 10, 2009

The Actor's Project NYC is a unique theatre company that assists it's members land agents and get work through quality industry showcases and quality original plays.  The company produces shows through membership dues, meaning members pay to be part of the company and in return receive a part in an industry showcase at a quality mid-town theatre such as The Abingdon Main Stage (shows are always attended by industry). Included in membership dues is also assistance updating marketing tools (headshot & resume workshops),  coaching on how to research and contact agents (agent coaching workshops), writing workshops (monologues, scenes, sketch-comedy), bio workshops, and more.  The company receives close to a thousand applicants each season and caps membership at 150 per season.  Our showcases feature all original works from company writers starring new actors and seasoned actors.  The company also produces two plays a year where cast members share in 60% of the play profits.  The company also produces an all sketch-comedy show where cast members share in 60% of the profits.
Many of our actors return season after season because of the quality of our work and the support of our members.
After three seasons, members have the option to become Lifetime Members who are not required to pay dues.
