I to was taken by this small but serious violation of false advertisement. I saw it on the tv made the appointment and was enrolled in classes the next week. It seemed way to fast. I didn't even know my instructors first name before I started class.

It took me 14 months to complete my program and have not found a job in about a year or so and now I am out 12,000 and I can't even begin to tell you what I'm going to do to pay this back.. I should have gone to beauty school instead. Please don't let these people get away with taking peoples dream and making them think that this is such an easy occupation to land a job in.

Manage Your Expectations

I cannot speak to the false advertisement the original poster mentions, since I haven't seen it, but since I graduated from Soma I wanted to share my positive experience.

At the time I was enrolled (2004-2005), I had solid, competent instructors who did their best to teach us proper technique and share insight from their experiences in the field. The admissions advisers were there to answer questions, and I urge readers to realize that admissions advisers are there to get people in the door; it IS there job, after all, to recruit people, but it is up to YOU to make an INFORMED decision on your own.

It is true that the program can take 10-14 months to complete, based on which schedule you choose (full time, part time, etc). Like most schools, if you do not do well in a course you must retake it, which lengthens the amount of time. Career assistance is available through the school, but it's foolish to think that they can guarantee you a job; I don't know of any school that does that.

I suggest everyone carefully consider any career decision they make and to be prepared to work for what you want. Nothing in life worth having is just handed to you.
