Why Blame the Bank

AUTHOR: Jim - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, January 20, 2020

Yes, your mom fell for a pretty common scam.  But this idiocy of the bank determining you were guilty is just that - idiocy.  The bank makes absolutely no judgment on your guilt or innocence.  Your mom took $600 from her bank account - what she decided to do with the money is irrelevant to the bank.  The bank holds her money on deposit, and if she needs the money, then she goes and withdraws the money.  If she was robbed or loses the money on the way home from the bank, why would the bank refund her the money?

Being robbed and being scammed are pretty much the same thing in this situation.  Next time, don't blame anyone except the person who scammed Mom....  Also, tell Mom not to get a loan from an online company.  Why would anyone online guarantee a loan to anyone if she could not receive a loan from her own bank?

Not the bank's responsibility

AUTHOR: John - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, January 19, 2020

Why do you think the bank should be responsible for something like this? Should the bank be your Mommy and hold your hand through every transaction? The bank is there to keep your money safe for when you want to use it, not to guide you through purchasing decisions.

It's not a Financial Adviser. Sorry about the rip-off but in no way can the bank be expected to return money it did not take.
