I feel this is a rip off because I have to search and if I'm lucky I'll find the page to make my payment online.

It is a rip off of my time and extra money I have to pay because I'm late on my payments

It is a ripoff because now I have to mail a check now which will make my payment late even more.

Paying Mortgage over the net, THINK TWICE ABOUT IT

AUTHOR: Brandy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 16, 2008

Lois I hope you don't pay your mortgage online anymore, it can cause a head ache worse then searching for the web page. READ ON

I had Countywide up until about 2002 or 2003. Well back in the late 90's I discovered how easy it is to pay ALL my bills online and started paying my mortgage thru their web site. I did this for 3 or 4 house payments (sorry to long ago to remember the exact #) then in December I paid my December house payment. After a few days I went online to balance my check book only to find I was almost $4,000 over drawn in my checking account.

For someone who is NEVER over drawn you can imagine my panic.

I found out from my bank that Countrywide had put my mortgage thru 2 x's for a grand total of $3,100 but my mortgage was only $1550 (that was all I paid). Called the mortgage company, the CSR who answered the phone told me I paid the current and opted to pay $1550 on the principal ..... this was wrong. After a week of calling and getting no where I finally got what I thought was an intelligent supervisor, explained it all to him. He called me back the following day and explained they had a clitch in the web site that caused the system to automatically include an equal amount paid be applied to the principal but no worried just put the money in the account they'll rerun it for $3,100 and apply the additional $1,550 to the following months house payment and you won't have to pay January's house payment.

No problem, I went out to my money tree in the back yard, picked off two grand and went to the bank to make my deposit so Countywide would be happy. Ya right, I actually went to our bank "Union Bank of California", love them would do biz with them any day of the week. Told my banker that I had previously worked with on our new accounts and auto loans what happened.

She called Countrywide and literally told the person on the phone they would have the mortgage payment by the next day (which was of course the 15th of the month) and as for the charges they could Jump in a Lake. Then she reversed all the charges on our checking account, put all the money back in, paid the checks that were showing NSF, closed our checking account and opened us a new one. She then took it one step further, had me write out the house payment of the new checking and sent it over-night Fed Ex to arrive by 10:30 am on Dec 15th thus avoiding Countrywides Late Fee and the credit bureau reporting that goes with it.

Union Bank Employees ROCK !!

For anyone thinking we must have money and that's why the bank did what they did, think again. We aren't rich, didn't have loads of money in the savings account, we were just good customers that didn't bounce checks and paid our auto loans on time.

Since then I pay my mortgage one of two ways, either calling and paying Citi the extra $8 processing fee for a Check over the phone or I send it 3 day Fed Ex.

Thinks twice before you pay such a large bill over the internet unless you two have a money tree in the back yard to pick fresh bills off to cover electronic clitches.
