My husband and i went to purchase a vehicle from Coggin Automotive. We gave a trade in as a down payment.

They found us a bank willing to finance us but 30 days later they came up with a story saying they needed an allotment that was out of our control and they took the car back.

WHen we told them just give us our trade in back they refused and even refused to give us the value of the trade in.

THey kept our car and we walked away with nothing. Well at least that's for now until a lawyer gets their hands on them.

Truth about dealerships

AUTHOR: Jonathan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, May 18, 2007

First let me start by saying welcome to the world of automotive sales tactics. The unfortunate truth is that the laws are bent in their favor, not yours. When dealing with cars education is the key. First, know exactly what car you want and don't waiver. Find the car before ever going into the dealership. If the tell you they sold it, which probably happened a month prior, yes another tactic, then leave. Don't give them the opportunity to stop you. Always bring everything you might need to be approved for financing with you starting with a down payment of atleast 20% of the value of the vehicle.

Also bring your most recent paystub, bank statement, utility bill, and no less than 6 references. If the vehicle is used make sure it is certified by the manufacturer, not a dealership certification, example: Keith Pierson Certified just means it was inspected for safety without any warranty, Toyota Certified is warrantied by Toyota.

Verify loan approval with the lender prior to signing anything. They will probably tell you it's approved pending reciept of the documents I mentioned above. If so verify the amounts that they were given as your income are correct and then get a fax number and have it faxed then and there to ensure that everything is approved, this is also a great time to find out what interest rate you were approved at as a dealership will add points in order to make more off of the deal.

Also always bring a technician with you to inspect the car. Don't take it somewhere as they are taught to use sales tactics as well. There are plenty of technicians more than willing to take a quick look at a vehicle for $50-100 cash.

some quick facts:
There is never such a thing as a liquidation sale, tent sale, or any other kind of sale inwhich you will get a better deal. They inflate the prices for these things.

Only way to get a deal is to find out what cars are "old age" units that need to be moved and shop on the last few days of the month.

Bait and switch is part of the game as it is impossible for you to verify if infact a vehicle was just sold yesterday.

You will be lied to. Accept it. These guys typically know nothing about cars. Most couldn't even change their own oil. All they know is how to get you to buy. Every car has crumple zones and the same safety requirements, it's nothing special. Know the vehicle that way you won't be hoodwinked.

Never get excited or angry. It hurts you in the long run.

Remember, they're going to try to rip you off, it's your job to be educated enough not to let it happen. Oh, and always ask to see the black book for the value.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Dear Rita, You now have a sharp thorn and Now is the time to push it DEEP.

AUTHOR: The Great Thorn - ()

POSTED: Thursday, August 29, 2002

Dear Rita

I, The Great Thorn can't sleep because of all of the deception I find in the automotive industry. It just puts a big kink in my mental garden hose.

Rita and who ever else reads what I The Great Thorn post keep two things in mind when reading what ever I post. The first thing is I am nobodys poet, the second thing He who ever bashes me more then likly works for a car dealer.

I at one time sold cars for a living. I found it to be very nrve racking everyday that I went to work. It seemed that every manager was looking for a new way to Rip Fff the next car buyer.

The Deception came from every direction headed for the consumer's pocket. No, I can't say I am a saint. but what I can tell you is that I know where to stick the thorn because, I The Great Thorn know where they, the car dealers bleed.

Now comes the moment for The Great Thorn to reveal you to the POWER of this web site. Car dealers have a BIG FEAR of being exposed and not being able to keep deception under the rug. The creater of this POWERFUL web site has thought of EVERYTHING to help consumers.

Rita, your Rip Off Report will be sent to so many search engines. Later a few weeks down the road a car buyer will type "Coggin Pontiac, GMC" In a search engine like www.google.com and your Rip Off Report will pop up. Then much to their surprise, your Rip Off Report will be in their face to read.

This step by step plan might cost you $4 or $5 bucks, but just think how good it will feel when you have the power of The Great Thorn in your hand and this Great web site in your heart. The only thing you need to do is JUST PUSH it.

I feel what this dealership has done is that they did what is called "firing a shot gun" to your credit report. In other words, They sent your credit info to a bunch of secondary lenders looking for one that would finance you.

After they could not find a lender, thay had to make up a poor excuse to get their vehicle back. This process that they ran you through is done to so many car buyers.

Sometimes it is called a "Spot Delivery" Just think if you fax your Rip Off Report to EVERY fax number I posted how many people will read it. Don't forget that www.ripoffreport.com will never delete your Report.

Rita, I The Great Thorn have a favor to ask of you. Please go to the below web sites and check them out and come back to your Rip Off Report and post and Up Date telling the public what you feel these web sites do for CAR DEALERS.

www.grantcardone.com
www.davidlewis.com
www.joeverde.com
www.biggross.com

Now you can say that Coggin Pontiac, GMC has now made the Rip Off Report.

By the Way Rita,

I feel that this car dealer will never give you your trade in back, because they more then likly have sold it before they tried to get a bank to do the deal on the car that you wanted to buy from what I feel is a DECEPTIVE dealer.

Sounds like to me that this car dealer likes to sell out of the trade pen before their F & I department hangs the paper.

What makes them think that they can just keep your trade even if they did not fulfill their end of this car deal?

Signed,
The Great Thorn.

my Motto is "Go deep, They bleed longer that way"
