*Consumer Comment: no safe way to "fix" credit
Qwest credit charged me $800 to clean up my credit file. It was all lies. My credit was never fixed and I never received the Authorization User placed on my credit files. The owner is one nasty ***. He treats you like yesterdays garbage once he gets your money. Just beware of his sincere lies to help your credit. Six months later nothing but a financial loss, my $800.

There is a charge to remove errors by the credit bureau's themselves but this is the ONLY way to "fix" your credit legally.
You are mistaken. The Credit Reporting Agencies are NOT ALLOWED to charge consumers for correcting/deleting inaccurate information-this is forbidden by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Any CRA that charges a consumer for correcting/removing inaccurate/incorrect information is violating the FCRA and the consumer may successfully sue the CRA in District Court for the FCRA violation.

Credit reporting agencies CANNOT charge you for correcting legitimate errors on a consumer credit report-the Fair Credit Reporting Act FORBIDS it. Any CRA that charges a consumer for correcting/removing incorrect data is in violation of the FCRA and the consumer may successfully SUE the CRA in District Court for this violation.
The problem with these "fix my credit" scams is:
1. They tend to "dispute" everything on the credit report. Once the CRA gets wise to this, they are allowed to call the disputes frivolous and can then ignore the disputes. This means that a truly inaccurate line entry may very well remain.
2. These scammy businesses usually demand money UP FRONT- a direct violation of the Credit Repair Organizations Act.
3. These scammy businessses don't do anything that the consumer can't do for himself/herself.
4. They lie, usually promising to remove all bad entries, including bankruptcy. No one can compell a CRA to remove an item that is ACCURATE and CORRECT. If an item is accurate and correct, it remains on the credit report per the FCRA.

Fun fact about credit clean up companies........they usually break laws to clean up your credit or they are scams. If you have errors on your credit report, you have to fix them yourself by calling transunion, equifax or experian. There is a charge to remove errors by the credit bureau's themselves but this is the ONLY way to "fix" your credit legally.
