On May 11,05 at about 11 pm I purchased online a vacation package (flight, hotel and car)for the amount of $762.00 then I was told by the system that the price had increased by $50.78. I accepted the offer but the system was charging a delivery fee of $29.99 and a $10.00 booking fee which I accepted again.

After the purchase was confirmed by the system I went to verified my flight, but there was no indication that I had purchased anything. I desided to call the company 800 (Expedia Inc) number and the lady asked me for the information again and assured me that everything was ok. I went again to the web site to learn more about my flight, and again, it appeared no flight reservation.

I called 3 more time and was told that the credit card was not being accepted, so I called my bank and asked them what was going on. I was told by Keisha (bank customer service) that the company made some charges totaling the amount of $854.54 I tried again calling Expedia and was told again that they did not made charges to the account. While in my house phone I call on my cellular the bank and confronted them (Expedia). Expedia said that the system was down that I had to wait an hour so I did. But then,10 minutes later, I called saying I wanted to make reservation and the system was working fine thats when I told them who I was and explained again what was the problem.

They kept on saying that they did not withdraw money from my account and I decided to call my bank and my bank called them. They wanted me to wait 96 hours for them to put the credit back. My bank (Commerce Bank) stood 1 hour on the phone with them and demanded to put the money back or to give me the vacation package. Expedia desided to give me back the credit(Still waiting). The next day I called my bank and they told me that Expedia sent a Fax stating that any purchase was canceled ad that I was'nt going to be charged.

Supposedly they gave me credit, so I purchased another airline ticket on the 13th of May with Hotwired. On the 14th I went to get some groceries and when paying my balance was $0.00 so I called the bank. They told me that my balance was overdrawn -$400.00.

I had $300.00 on the account to get a Hotel and was gone. I asked Why? and they said I had 2 airline companies withdraw money from the acount. Thats when I found out that Expedia resubmited the order and when Hotwired withdraw the money my balance went -$400.00. I had tryied to get remborse my money but Expedia is refusing. The confirmation e-mail for the tickets they assigned went to a person named Orlando Tirado in atlanta Georgia besause Expedia used a wrong e-mail address with my phone #. This person contacted us thinking that there was an identity thef. we asked him to fowared the e-mail witch he did.

My trip is the 20th of May and I have no money instead I owe $400.00+ to my bank. I migth loose the chance to go to Colorado. It was'nt a vacation, and Expedia knew it.

It was a sacrifice to go see my daugther and her team competing for the world competition of Oddesey of the mind (School program). And when I say sacrifice is because we are a low income family and we had to sell some furniture to get the money. They did'nt took my money only, but they took my daugther's dream to see me there supporting her. Attn. Mayra Tirado Orlando Tirado
lost amount to $791.59

Expedia Package...

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 21, 2006

I noticed you mentioned booking a package with Expedia, and you stated one of the items happened to be a flight. Did you know that Expedia doesn't charge for the flight itself? That portion of the package is authorized by the airline, NOT Expedia. You would've needed to call the airline you selected to get the authorization dropped off. Expedia cannot control what the airline authorizes.

Also, if you talk to any Expedia agent, ask for the Case ID number next time. Any calls over 40 seconds are to be documented in a case, and if the agent is doing their job, you'll be given a case number regarding that call. Just a tip for future travel.

Nicholas - I love how you suggest to claim fraud by committing fraud and lying. Nice ethics. Maybe YOU should work for Expedia.

your ordeal makes me angry

AUTHOR: Nicholas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 22, 2005

I'm sorry about your loss and your daugter's loss.. I have done many transactions online and I have never experienced such thing and reading your ordeal makes me angry. All I can say is that your credit card should have done a chargeback accordingly the way it should be done and not accept any bogus fax from Expedia. This was unethical by your bank and you should demand that your bank be held responsible since it was their job to get your money back. For Christ sakes you did call your bank within minutes of the transaction so they should have put a stoped to the transaction at your request. Banks usually record on their system the time and date you called with an issue so they couldn't deny it. I would demand the bank to assume responsability for allowing expedia to steal your money. Better yet next time claim you never even knew about this charge and you just heard of it when you called to check activity on your card thru the automated system. If you don't already have AOL buy a software that will log you on the net with different IP address so when you claim that you did not place the order from your computer they have no way of proving it. This way you are considered a victim of credit card fraud and you will get your money back since you never placed the order for such ticket. Do not try to do this by actually buying a ticket and using it than claiming it wasn't you because than you will be probably caught. All I'm suggesting is to hide your IP in order to be able to claim your money back for fraud if such thing ever arise instead of telling the truth and getting the short end of the stick because of someone at a bank not doing their job when their job was to immeadiately process a chargeback and stop the transaction. Next time admit to nothing and just claim that you never did placed that order and that you found out since you periodically check activity on your card. This way it will be handled as a fraudalulent purchase. Once again do not do this to order goods to come to your home, a friend or family's house for you will get caught and prosecuted. Simply do this so whenever you see that you're about to get screwed by a company you can claim that someone must have taken your credit card info. When calling your credit card to do this also have them cancel it and get a new one in the mail.
