Recently I was searching for a new wireless company. My former wireless company was not able to offer me very good coverage. So I did some research and decided to go with AT&T wireless.

The plans were great, the price was reasonable, there was a great sale going on and I could do everything right online. This all made it very convenient for me with two little kids I wouldn't have to go into a store!

So I got the phone. During my first month I was not able to use my phone all that much and when I did I did not have great coverage but I didn't use it that much so I didn't really notice. I was still finishing up a month with my old wireless company so I was using those minutes with them.

Well, once I started using it I realized that it was a horrible waste. Wherever my phone indicated that I had some reception it would also say emergency calls only. I attempted to dial and it wouldn't let me make the call because it was not an emergency! This is not happening in a remote area. It is happening on the main road in our capitol city!

So, I thought, well at least I can use my cell phone to make my toll calls from home. NO! It doesn't work in my home, near my home, or around my home. I live in an immediate area that in an AT&Ts rep words "has very poor coverage." Just a thought, but perhaps that is something they should have considered selling me the phone.

Well, as time went on I got used to the fact of knowing that my phone rarely works. That it is in no way dependable. And if there were an emergency on any road that isn't the main road I am sure that I could not call for help on my cell phone which has no coverage, very comforting for a mother of 2 small children.

Then this summer I was going to do some traveling. So I called AT&T to switch to a national plan so at least my phone would work while I was away. I was on hold for about 20 minutes before a representative came to the phone. We talked forever as he tried to switch me to a national plan. He told me of what I was going to get included and what my rate would be. I was going to pay the same price and have a much better plan. So obviously I switched to this new plan. He told me it would show up on my next billing cycle. This entire time on the phone was about an hour from start to finish... something I had learned by now was not at all unusual for AT&T.

So my next billing cycle comes along. I am not surprised to see that my plan has not been changed. So, once again I subject myself to being on hold at AT&T. This is the night before I am to leave on my trip. The very trip I changed my plan for. Amazingly, I do not wait on hold for long before a representative takes my call. I explain to him that my account is not reflecting this new plan that I have. Well, he goes through my file.

Not surprisingly my plan was never changed. There is an indication that I had spoken with a representative but nothing about what we spoke about. I am a note taker. So I read to this new representative what I had been told I was getting as a part of my plan. He laughed, and said that wasn't even a plan. Then he said that once your billing cycle starts you have to wait until the next month to have a plan take effect. I spoke with him for a bit and he was able to "make a one time exception." Of course by now I had wasted almost two hours in total trying to switch to a national plan which should have been a far simpler process.

In the meantime, I go into a couple of local stores to explain my troubles. At the first location the guy tells me that AT&T doesn't cover my area and I shouldn't even have one of their phones. Well, they were quick to cell me the phone so obviously they don't' care about customer satisfaction at all.

At a later date I went into another location to see if possibly there could be something wrong with the phone and that is why it is telling me emergency calls only. The girl working there says she doesn't know and that is too bad about my service. That was the end of that. No attempt to look at my phone, ask me my wireless number to check my account. NOTHING.

So, once again I call the wireless company. They tell me that my area doesn't really have service and that they are sorry. But that if I can hang on eventually they will be combining with Cingulaur... which by the way doesn't work in my area? He then tells me that my phone works on the lake... now seriously! When a customer is this dissatisfied that may not be a good thing to say. Turns out he thought that lake was a town but still!

I asked to speak with someone about terminating my contract. They told me the fee is $175. I asked if there was any way to reduce or eliminate that because of the fact that I don't even get service. The answer is a simple no.

This is not a complete list of the phone, email, and live tech communication I have had with the company, just a sampling. All in all I get different answers each time. The end is still the same... little to no coverage anywhere in my area and a cell phone bill to pay.
