I joined Anytime Fitness in Leesburg, VA on 12/29/08. In March 2009 I was surprised when I showed up to work out only to find a sign in the window that said the club was closed. I contacted the owner, and was told that my membership was transferred to an Anytime Fitness in the next town over. When I told the owner that this location was inconvenient for me, he told me to send him an e-mail. I did and received confirmation that my membership was cancelled. I immediately called and asked about a refund of the unused portion of my membership dues, and was told to give him "a week or two to process it". I contacted him a week later and was told that I would hear something within 2 more weeks.

Well it has now been three weeks, and I have not heard from him, and am not getting any response from my calls or e-mails. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and will file a court case tomorrow. All I want is the unused portion of my membership dues returned to me. This owner owns the club he tried to transfer me to, and told me that he had to close the Leesburg club because the landlord wouldn't renegotiate his lease. I wonder why I was not told that the club was in danger of loosing it's lease at the time I signed up and paid 1 year advance dues? Also, at the time I signed up, I was told and it is still advertised on the website, that a club would be opening near my work. Well, it's been 3 months, and the location advertised is still for lease with no signs of a fitness club moving in. Incidentally, the website also lists the Leesburg location as being open.

Wrong info...

AUTHOR: Dustin V. - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, December 07, 2009

I'm merely writing to correct some of the information in the original posting. The address of the business was not listed correctly. The writer of the original complaint was complaining about the Lansdowne location, but the address he provided was the Ashburn location. The writer also said that the owner of the Lansdowne location also owned the Ashburn location, but that is not true. The owner of the Ashburn location opened that location, and he and his partners have always been the owners of the Ashburn location. More specifically, the owners of the Lansdowne location are not/ were not the owners of the Ashburn location (Jeff Strahan never had any part of ownership in the Ashburn location).

I just wanted to clarify so that the reputation of the Ashburn location is not damaged by what happened at the Lansdowne location.

Hello Patrick,

I don't know what I've done to make you so upset but I do apologize. I've been working really hard since the club was unjustly closed because our landlord would not negotiate a lower rent in the current economy. I've had to take care of over 600 members and have been working as fast as I can. Almost everyone of the members are very happy with how everything was handled considering the situation. Those members also have been very sympathetic of this misfortune and have given me a lot of verbal support. I have, and try to have a personal relationship with almost all the members. Because of this, majority know the kind of integrity I up hold. It's unfortunate that we've never met face to face and had the chance to interact because I'm sure you would feel the same as well.

To prove my business legitimacy, I have attached a copy of our bond that protects all of our members in the case we got out of business. All spas are required to purchase this bond which protects the members investment in the case the club goes out of business. I've had no intention of not refunding you or anyone's money. Because of the situation, (and the kind of business person I am) I've been going over and above to handle this personally. I could have simply handed this over to the county bond which would have took really long time for all the members to get a refund. It has been less than a month and I've almost accomplished handling everyone's account personally (which I think is an extraordinary accomplishment on my part). Because of this it's very disappointing, discouraging, and hurtful that you post such a defamation about me personally on the rip off report website. It's one thing to put the company but it's another to put my name in the blog.

I guess no good deed goes unpunished.

With that being said, I'll be refunding you your pro-rated portion of you membership asap.

If you could rescind the blog you posted about me on the rip off report website it would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Jeff Strahan
